Fanfic panel at Emerald City Comic Con

Hey guys, if you’re going to Emerald City Comic Con next weekend, I’m going to be on a panel about fanfiction, Slash, Shipping, and Online Communities: Why Fanfiction Matters – you should come!

I confess I think this is kinda hilarious, since I’m not a BNF, hell, I’m not even what you could call popular and I sometimes think I couldn’t get people to read my fic if I threw $20 bills at them like a stripper in reverse. But the lovely Zoe and Ruby asked me to be on it, so I said yes, and there are other cool people on the panel like lettered and Astrid from AO3. It’s also funny because I’m not a wide reader – I tend to focus on a narrow range of fic, and kind of keep to my own little corner. But god knows, I’m never short on opinions.

The panel is on Saturday at the dinner hour, 5:30-6:30, so I have no idea what to expect, but if you’d like to come talk about fanfic, join us! We’ll also be doing a livestream, I guess, on Sunday morning, which terrifies me since I look even worse on camera than I do in real life, but I don’t know where that is on the schedule–I think it’s at 11:15 am PT and you may be able to watch it without attending?

I’m hoping to talk about one of my favorite topics, which is that fic allows us to delve into characters or relationships that would never be center stage, or even allowed to happen, in the source material (my personal fave: Bucky having friendships with characters like Pepper Potts or Clint Barton). But I’m sure there’ll be a lot of other fun stuff to discuss. I hope to see you there!

I wish you could too! If you're bored and feel like getting the Twitch app, on the ECCC web page under live stream stuff, you should be able to watch some of the livestream stuff. We're on at Sunday 11:15, I guess. I don't know what the tablet can handle or the place you're in, but if it can, at least you can see some discussion that way--I have no idea what the livestream mod will ask us, though. ::is scared::

If my agoraphobia hadn't gotten a lot worse since my mom's death (it now gets me when I step outside my apartment building, ARGH) and I weren't terrified of crowds, I'd love to see this. But maybe I can still catch the livestream!

You know, I was gonna ask--Freeway Park is still there by the convention center, right? I'm going to be there all day tomorrow, and I don't know if you'd feel like going for a walk in that direction or if you and T are pushing against the agoraphobia (which, if you're not, that's okay, but I figured I'd ask just in case). I would love to say hi.

But I get needing to stay inside. I had a con last weekend, and then I'm doing this now, and I'm fucking OVERwhelmed. My little INFJ self can't handle this.

I was honestly amazed that it's sold out. I guess anyone can watch the livestream, though--you just have to DL the Twitch app or watch on a computer--the information's on the ECCC site.

I would totally be up for foodtimes! The panel should be over at 6:30 and I would be free after that, or any time mid-day before 4:30, when we're meeting up to go over the panel talk before hand. Then on Sunday I should be open after the livestream, around noonish. I'm hoping to meet up with someone else in Freeway Park who's not at the con but lives nearby, but otherwise I'm mostly going to be in the dealer's room and wandering around aimlessly trying not to be overwhelmed by humanity (I'm an INFJ).
