<Rant warning ahead...>

I get cranky from time to time here, especially as regards Fox's unrelentingly abysmal treatment of Firefly, but this just made my entire dilithium core go kablooey and hit a level 3 containment breach. I read in an article from yesterday (catching up after giving myself a concussion the other night! Whee!) in the Atlanta Journal Constitution or something or other that Gail Berman, exec of Fox, acknowledged that it would be difficult to work with Joss Whedon because of the Firefly situation, and that he was licking his wounds (gee, ya think, you stupid fucking cow?). And then she said... "it's difficult when you have a show that's not working."

It wasn't the show that wasn't working, you fuckwitted, cretinous, intellectually disenfranchised boob, it was YOUR NETWORK and your completely arbitrary scheduling and your utter lack of support for it.

I wish I knew how to get in touch with Joss and Tim, I mean, really get a letter to them. I'd like to sit down and write a good, long tome of praise to let them know how much I appreciated and loved this show, how much it brought to me, how the tiniest of things they did gave me so much pleasure week to week. After comments like Berman's I feel this oddly compelling need to tell them that these callous, intellect-bereft execs aren't speaking for the rest of us, and that millions of us did appreciate their work.

And after comments like that, I can't imagine that Fox will ever show us those last few filmed episodes. If you haven't already done this, on the Firefly Immediate Assistance site, at the bottom of the main page, there's an e-mail address of a guy taking demo information about a possible dvd subscription. Give him your info. This may be the only chance we'll get to see those eps, if this is what Gail fucking Berman thinks of Firefly.

I guess the good is that the lifespan of this Gail Berman as a television exec will be realtively short. Given statistics and all. And her uncanny ability to sound like a complete asshole.

Sorry for hopping in, I just felt compelled to comiserate...because it's Friday and I missed my Firefly.

I'm glad you did drop in! Commiseration is always for the good, I say. In jsut a few short weeks, I'd got to the point where Friday was the day I looked forward to not just because it was the end of the work week, but because of Firefly. I hadn't felt that since Now and Again was on Fridays a few years ago. Now it just makes me sad.Ω

I'm behind you 110% on this. You'd think that, of all the networks, Fox would understand the need to let the audience find a show. They have their experience with X-Files to draw on. And Firefly was the best science fiction show on TV bar none - the best sci-fi show in a very long time, and one of the best any-kind-of-show. But no, they fucked with the order of them, didn't promote it worth a damn, and then yanked the rug out way too soon. Well, phooey on them. May syphilitic weasels nest in their pillows.

If they can develop all these scary biological weapons, why can't they come up with an incurable syphilis that we can inflict on people who run networks? There can never be too much incurable syphilis as punishment for universal infractions, if you ask me.
