Spoilers for Angel ep Calvary, 2/13 -- warnings!

Here's why I wish I wasn't graphics-program and screen capture -less in Seattle: I desperately want that shot of Angel holding up the little blond vampire girl, only from the back before we saw that she was a vamp, and with that line on it -- "Is there no fast food LEFT in L.A?" That's what I'd make for my icon if I actually could make icons, which I can't so it's moot, I suppose.

Not a lot of time for an Angel review, or any particular deep thoughts. The fallout from the recent layoffs and attendant misery are still causing problems, incuding that they let our IT guy go so I'm having wonky work computer problems and no one to fix them. Anyways.

It seems like a lot of people are disenchanted with Buffy but liking Angel -- funny to me, because I'm just enjoying the hell out of both of them, for vastly different reasons. Angel still feels like it's often forced and desperate to me, but then, I'd been just about to give the show up completely when they finally brought Evil!Angel back. It's injected a life force into the series that I don't know if they can sustain once Softy!Angel comes back. Especially not if they're going to keep killing off the good bad guys!

I never did get around to reading spoilers for this, mostly just because I ran out of time, so I haven't yet found out what's going to happen, but it was a fun surprise to see Cordy go all evil. I have no idea how or why or when or where, but heck, that's what the future's for. When the little Red Riding Hood of Evil told them the answer was among them, I wasn't totally expecting old earth mother Cordy, since she's become such a non-entity irritation to me on the show.

While I love Wes to a staggering degree, I feel like my love of him definitely came at the expense of other characters, which makes me a bit sad. I hate seeing how boring and Riley-esque they've made Gunn, to the point that it's impossible to care about his feelings now. But damn, Wes is the man. Hoo-boy. I agree with [profile] dragolyn, that it would be some serious fun to have a Wes/Faith thang. I realize after some of the recent news that that won't happen, but I can dream, can't I? And I don't even like Faith, in fact, I hate her, but am hopeful they won't mire her in the stupid, annoying schtick that wore me down about her before.

Still loving all of Angelus's antics, and the delightfully horrid things he says. Loved Lilah, too -- god she can say just the most deliciously appalling things. The show will suffer without her, I'm afraid. I was reading someone's LJ today and now I can't remember who said it (sorry!), but I agree with the idea that ME has not always done right by their secondary characters, especially. So for me, it was mercifully little Connor this time; but I wish they'd come up with a way to make his character more likable so that I wouldn't have to say that all the time -- in the same way they've made Dawn so much more likable this year than last.

And still really grooving on the camera work. It's weird that UPN gives Buffy more money than WB did, but WB is still giving Angel far more cool cinematography, blocking, and interesting coverage shots than Buffy seems to get. Alas. But the one thing I came away with, the strongest feeling, was: What the fuck is it with making us wait three weeks for the rest of the story, especially during sweeps month? Jesus jumped up christ on a sidecar, that is the dumbest thing I've ever seen. "Here's some really exciting stuff! Coming up! Next month!" Grrrr.

Wish I had more coherent or interesting things to say. Enjoyed the heck out of it, is about all.

I actually find myself really liking Connor in this ep. Specifically, his interaction with Gunn, and their mutual glee at being able to kill the soul-stealing demon. They were excited and cute. Then Gunn got back in a scene with Fred, and I found him borign again.

Which show are you talking about now? I missed the trailer for Angel[us], but I remember there being a new ep trailer for Buffy.

It was from Angel -- they ran this teaser at the end with nothing but closeups of Faith, and went on and on about "in three weeks, Faith returns"... I was just gobsmacked that they would wait that long on such a strong arc. It's never a good sign when they stop a show that long during sweeps -- it was bad enough that they took it off for nearly two months over the hols, now they're doing it again! Grrr

GAH!

You mean there's another 3 weeks before a new Angel episode?! That reeks.

I'm replying to Rashaka's comment since I know Gwyn will get it too; basically from what I understand, the reasoning is threefold. 1) They're showing the last two episodes of Birds of Prey. 2) They don't want Angel to have to compete with the last episode of Bachelorette - although of course I'd be watching Angel (or the West Wing) rather than the Bachelorette any day. 3) There's some ... timing issues that I can't say anything about unless you're willing to be spoiled. Plus I'm only mildly spoiled on that issue myself since I want to be at least a little surprised. :-)

That makes sense. A lot of people tune into reality shows at the very end to see who wins. Or, I assume they do (I wouldn't know).

nope, I'll leave that to you. Spoilers aren't my bag of goodies. Thanks for answering my question.
