Still not out of the woodshed
Nov. 6th, 2012 09:47 pmI'm so glad to see so many happy posts about Obama looking like the clear winner. But I don't feel like we can celebrate, not by a long shot, in Washington state -- the marriage equality referendum is really narrowly leading in acceptance here, but there's no guarantee that it will stay that way. Unfortunately we have an all-mail in voting system in our state now, and so it takes a lot longer to verify things and get through all the ballots. And we notably had some GOP voter suppression activities the past few days. So...I am still queasy and scared and vibrating with stress.
All I can think of is Sandy and B, and how Sandy died being unable to marry her beloved in the state she lived and paid taxes in. And I want this for her memory so badly. I want this for everyone, but especially for Snady.
I was pleased, though, to see that one of the door hang tags the Pro-47 people left on my door the other day had the King County prosecutor and his wife on it. He's an old classmate of mine from junior high and high school, as well as college, and it was nice to see him publicly support the cause.
You guys, please don't sigh with relief just yet -- keep your fingers and toes crossed for us, pray if that's what you do. We need this here.
