DVDs from the UK

I wanted to ask anyone who's ordered Angel DVDs from the UK whether you thought it was worth it. I'm working on this vid that needs to be done relatively soon, and have been playing around with a mix of tapes (thanks to rainkatt! again) and my S3 DVDs. But the video store we can usually get R2 discs from doesn't seem to have S4, and I need it soonish -- but they are unconcerned regarding my emergency, the fools, and don't seem to feel compelled to either get the discs in or tell me when/if they might.

I went looking on the usual spots people have recommended before I got the multiregion player, and the prices are pretty astronomical right now on the exchange rate. Do you feel it's been worth it to buy from the UK for the earlier R2 releases? And have you ever used the marketplace on amazon.co.uk? I was confused by whether they'd do international orders on all the used discs or not, since those were individual sellers, but only a few listed said they mailed internationally -- and holy cow, they were charging more than amazon new!

I'd love to hear your experience or advice. I'm not sure if this is a good idea or not, just so I can get this damn vid made for real.

just a wanrning, since you are looking for the DVDs for vid-source, don't buy the Chinese DVDs. I sometimes buy Chinese DVDs to save money (like for anime) because they play on US machines but the season four of Angel wasn't widescreen (so the picture is more than a little bit distorted.)

You know, I had a really bad feeling about the Hong Kong discs, and even though there were tons for relatively cheap in ebay, I just didn't feel good about taking a chance on them. Glad I didn't. the ones I'm looking at are definitely R2 from the UK -- it's just that I'm not so sure if the incredible added expense is worth it or not.

How may DVD players do you have? My regular one is Region 1, but I switched the one in my computer to play English DVDs.

I've actually got a couple -- which is better than the four VCRs I have (though two reside elsewhere, so... it's not really that bad, right?). The one I use to vid with is multiregion, and hacked for the macrovision. It's just really hard to decide whether to spend the extra money, and what the buying experience is like. Amazon UK has some used copies for much cheaper than full retail, but its still a hefty chunk of change, and I'm not sure how much its worth, really.

I've never used Amazon UK's marketplace, just Amazon UK itself. I've also seen region 2 Angel and Buffy DVDs for sale on EBay and those folks will probably ship to the US if you pay the extra s&h costs. (I have the S4 DVDs too, so if you want to borrow mine instead, just let me know.)

Ebay was weird -- there were only a few legit copies and they were asking almost as much as Amazon retail! All of them seemed to be from Hong Kong, and I'm really dubious about the quality of pirated stuff to use for vidding. Man, I would love to borrow your S4 if that's possible -- I would buy you copious amounts of really, really good chocolate and leave you anything you want for collateral. ;-) Tell me what kind of sweet treats you like, okay? (I know you've been in LA, but starting next week, I'm going to be a contract drone at the evil empire, so getting together would be pretty easy!) I shouldn't have to keep them for very long -- just a day or two to capture the clips I want. You are so kind to offer.

Hee! Yes, I can be bought ... and cheaply. Any kind of leftover Easter candy (Peeps!) would work ;-) And I have S7 Buffy DVDs too ...

Good to know the tapes were helpful--I was afraid that between stupid cable reception and my slapdash labeling, you'd be going nuts.
