My girl Kalima, [livejournal.com profile] lordshiva on LJ, is writing a wonderful new novel called Time Travel for Pedestrians. So far there is wonderful Spike and wonderful Buffy, wonderful Dawn, and lovely Tara and lovely Willow, and cool original characters. This is the stuff that keeps people in this fandom -- rich settings, wonderful dialog (she does the Best. Spike. Ever.), perfect characterization. Damn, I wish this had been the show we saw in S6, I might have loved it. You can find it at her memories section here.

And on a totally unrelated note -- is there any fandom at all (maybe only a really new, or really really small fandom) that doesn't have a story called Chiaroscuro? Is that THE most overused title word in all of fanfiction? It's sure starting to seem that way to me. I feel like starting a campaign -- Stop Unncessary Chiaroscuro Titling. Or SUCT for an acronym.

Hee. I can think of two Buffy fandom fics called Chiaroscuro. Can't think of an Angel one.

On other oft-used titles, I just looked at my fanfic folder. There are about forty Buffy and Angel fics there waiting to tranferred to my laptop. Three of them are called Triptych. I hoped 'chiaroscuro triptych' might be a googlewhack, but no such luck, 617 results...

Triptych! Aiiieeee... Titling seems to be a rare art, I think. Too many people just go for the trite and true. ;-)

Oddly enough I don't think that Stargate has a Chiaroscuro, but we do have at least one, possibly more of my personal nomination for Ubiquitous Fanfic Title, "Through A Glass, Darkly."

I would almost bet you that there is -- if we do enough digging! I swear... it's just... everywhere. It's pernicious. And who'd expect that Through a Glass would be overdone, too? Honestly, there are way more poems in the world to steal lines from to use as titles! Maybe I should start collecting potential titles of stories and set up a site to provide them so people would stop using the same ones, over and over...

I don't know anything at all about this fandom, but you might want to make her aware that Time Travel For Pedestrians is the title of a very well known story by Ray Faraday Nelson (among other places, it appears in the Dangerous Visions anthologies by Harlan Ellison)

And it is an homage to that story.

It is an homage, as mentioned above -- she discusses the reasons in other entries on her journal, but it's definitely a conscious decision, since she's a pro writer. I should probably have mentioned it when I did the original post.

As I said - not my fandom, I've never even seen an episode. I didn't mean it as anything but a heads up. As long as she knows, that's fine, and her own decision.

Nope. *snicker* Phantom Menace fandom has at least two.
