I have this dumb idea for a vid and I think I need to be talked out of it. If you're my friend, you'll discourage me. Why? Because I'm not even sure it's doable, for one thing, and another, I've got a million other vids on deck, waiting for their turn at bat, and it's yet another Spike vid (because the world doesn't have enough, you know?), and my arm is feckin' killin' me (I'm seriously thinking of investing in a Wacom tablet to ease my RSI -- anyone have much experience with them?), and I have tech difficulties on my Wes/Lilah vid to work out anyway, and... lots of stuff to do, especially the garden.

The song is Everclear's Santa Monica, which I cannot get out of my head. I keep seeing Spike in BS7, AS5. The lines about living beside the ocean and swimming out past the breakers would be a bitch to do, and of course they repeat ad nauseaum... see, this is why it's a bad idea. But the rest of it feels so post-Buffy Spike! And I love the idea of the repeating end lines "watch the world die."

I hate when I get consumed with vid visions. It never ends well.

Mmm...Everclear.

Don't feel bad; I have 'Summerland' on my list as a Spike/Buffy video (come on: "We have lost the power to make each laugh" is so their S6 relationship; the rest of it of course is troublesome at best). Sadly, I have no power (nor will) to dissuade you from this course. Unless you have more Firefly vids in the hopper, in which case I'll summon some anti-Everclear vidding argument.

I do have more Firefly! A Kaylee vid, and then there's Keen Eddie, more Miracles, more LFN, more old skool Buffy stuff I've wanted to do for a hundred years... garr. My friends are not helping!

I have a Wacom tablet and I would never ever use anything else.

Does it pretty much work with everything? I've noticed that in the advertising, they always focus on how it's synched up for photoshop, and I'm not a p-shop user. I'm mostly interested in using the more precise dragging options, and how the times I've used one, I noticed I did not have nearly as much pain -- plus, I can use it better in my left hand than the mouse, since I'm right handed. I'm assuming it pretty much works with everything, but I'm not really well versed in them yet.

Yes, the Wacom tablet works with everything just like a regular mouse. I think it's supposed to be a drawing tablet that comes with a mouse but I use it pretty much exclusively as a mouse.

I also have a wrist pad for my keyboard and I tell you, I don't know what I'd do without it. When I'm at other people's computers and don't have a wrist pad, I detest typing without it. There are also mouse pads with wrist rests built into them. I've never used one of those though.

I say yeah! to another Spike vid ...

Do it, do it, do it!

Oh no :-( Maybe you need one of those wrist pads too -- they're mouse pads with a big padded area to support your wrist.

You are a bad friend! You're supposed to DIScourage me. ;-)

Hey, I think -- if I get these tech problems cleared up -- I am finished with the S4 discs and can return them to you. With, of course, a copy of the vid that hopefully I can get cleaned up enough so you can watch it!

I'd love to see it! Just drop me an email, Gwyn, and we can meet up for lunch or something. I've never tried the cafeterias in your building ;-)

I want you to make any vids you want, as long as it doesn't a) make your RSI worse and b) keep you from writing. So please take care of your RSI!

Well, I do have a very small chapter of the WIP coming up, if it gets back from my beta. But yeah, writing is kind of harder to do when I'm in vid farr.

I have a wacom tablet. I only really use it for drawing - because part of my own RSI is from too much writing by hand - but it's a really nice input device, as these things go, and I love it muchly.

And I really like that song, so I'm not in any hurry to talk you out of it. :-)

Hey, if I give you my email address, can I have a password to see your vids? ascian@rawbw.com. (Um, if the answer is no, don't worry about it...)

The one time I extensively used one was with my former partner, and he was trying to teach me to use Paint. I thought it was wonderful -- even though writing by hand does cause me hand issues, that's not nearly as bad for me as my elbows and forearms, which hurt so much sometimes when I'm vidding that I want to cry. I guess it's proof that vidding really can physically traumatize you. ;-)

I do, that's the problem! I've been promising all these other vids for so long, and then Spike comes along and he's all sexy and damaged, and I can't say no to him. Then Nikita and Paul and Eddie & Monty and all the rest of them glare hostilely at me. Sigh.

I've used a Wacom tablet, most with Photoshop, of course. There's really nothing like it for drawing/painting on the computer. It works just like a pen. The only thing that irritates me is that if you have to type a lot and you use the pen as your mouse, you have to keep putting the pen in its holder while you type, then pick it up again, instead of moving your hand to your mouse.

However, it would seem to me to make the most sense to actually see a doctor, before your condition makes you actually unable to use your hands and arms....
