After a flurry of activity on Saturday night and getting whipped into a frenzy about meeting the dog I wanted to adopt, a couple days went by before I heard anything again -- the fosters left their phone at work, and apparently over the phoneless weekend decided they wanted to keep Haylee. I am so incredibly disappointed. After all the frenzy of getting the house ready and the promise (or threat?) of "if everything goes well, we'll leave her there after the meeting," it's hard to have that taken away.

I know, there are lots of other dog-fish in the sea. And I got the obligatory lecture about how I can't fall in love with a story and a photo, blah blah, whatever. I know that. I've brought plenty of anipals into my life before. It's just that she sounded like a great fit for me (everyone agreed on that), and all the plans were in motion, so it wasn't some esoteric thing from far away. And yeah, I did fall in love with her photos and her story (she was found with the body of her person, and hadn't left their side after they passed away, when the family came in and unceremoniously dumped her at a kill shelter), but that's what led me there, not the end result. On Saturday night, I was actually flipping out about everything the next day, worrying that I didn't have all the stuff I needed for her, wondering if I could introduce her to the house correctly so she would know who the pack leader was, etc. It was actually happening.

Grrrr. I know myself well enough that I know I can't take whatever dog breaks my heart, because they all do. I have to be focused and find one that's the perfect match for me, so I can be the best leader and mommy for it and give it a good forever home. OTOH, I guess I have more time to build up finances and stuff.

In other news, man, I hate Stana Katic's hair in Castle this season. I hate that she went the route of every other actress in Hollywood and felt she had to go with long hair -- her short hair was so kicky and youthful. This awful curtain of shapeless long hair (really, it has no form to it, and hangs straight down, giving her the appearance of having a thick neck) ages her about ten years, and makes her look squared off, and as if she's not moving her head. She seems stiff as a board. Everything I liked about Beckett has been taken away gradually on this show, and I'm not keen on this -- I think the hair is like some crazy representation of how they've changed her character. And I keep thinking she's pregnant -- they're doing all the hiding tricks, but in a search, I see that tons of other people think the same thing, though there's nothing informative out there about it. Whatever it is, I want the old Castle back, and the old Det. Beckett back, too! Now!

Ack! I'm so sorry. I know the right doggy will find you, but still, disappointing.

Reminds me of the story I read on someone else's journal today, about a person who was moved all the way across the country for a new job, sold their condo, etc., then on the first day of said new job, they got laid off. I guess it could be worse?

Awwww, I'm so sorry--that kind of thing is so difficult, especially right at the last minute like that. Argh. I'm sorry! *hugs*

I am SO PLEASED you're finding a dog for yourself! Sorry the one you met got kept unexpectedly, but there is another one out there with your name on him/her!

Our Calvin has been a fantastic source of love and affection, and an excellent excuse for taking a walk. :-)

Yeah, i"m thinking that a lot of dogs I see in rescue need to lose weight, and that will be good for me because we can lose weight together! I live near the beach, and that is going to be wonderful to be able to walk down there with a dog and take a rest on a log before we head up the hill to home. We'll get a great workout and the dog will be happy to look at birdies and ducks and everything else.

ouch. we're planning on getting a new cat soon, but have decided we're going to keep adopting from the shelters and avoid any fosters. it can be tricky working with rescue groups. some are really great - some are really batty.

Amen.

I will avoid foster horror stories in this space.

all three of our cats came from local shelters - there ae so many shelters here in the Bay area and we try to use them as much as we can.

I think it's like any volunteer group -- never know what the left hand is doing, etc. I was just really disappointed that it got to the point of me getting the house all set up and stuff.

I am right there with you on both the hair and the dog.

Good luck in your continued search for a bowser. He or she will be a very lucky dog, indeed.

*crosses fingers*

Sorry to hear about the doggie disappointment. You'll find the right one in time.

And man, yes, Stana's hair! I think I spent half of the first ep saying how much I hated it. (The other half dedicated to mocking her ridiculous heels, per usual.)

I'm so glad that I'm not alone on the Stana Katic hair issue! It's amazing how many people seem to hate it this year... I feel like writing her a fan letter and telling her I love her, so I want her to fix her hair. ;-)

Years ago, in between apartments and having to live at home again, my mom decided to adopt a golden retriever. She found one and the dog was such a sweetie. She came from a home that shows goldens but had way too many to be legal in their town.

We had the dog for a couple of hours when...the family showed up again and said they wanted her back. I was so stunned and just couldn't speak.

So...I know what you went through and am crossing all fingers and toes that the right dog enters your life very soon. For it will be a very happy pup!

Arg. Yeah, I could have a fear of that happening, too. ;-) It's such a big decision, and one I'm not entering into lightly, so I really want everything to go smoothly.

Sorry about the dog situation. It can surprisingly difficult to find the right dog, or let one go to another home (based on the stories I've read; my family tends to be one animal at a time--the exception being the tortoise, because, c'mon, what can you do about a pet that sleeps half the year and is going to outlive all of us?).

The hair is bad enough. It's the tottering heels this season that really get to me. I had always liked Beckett's fashionable-yet-practical working clothes. She even had a couple of outfits (especially coats and scarves) that I would've like to have. Now she looks just like every other character on every other show. And if the cut of the hair weren't bad enough, it's getting progressively blonder. Ugh.

Beckett would never wear those shoes.

What is up with her clothes this year? She's always dressed nicely modern, not really what a cop would wear, but at least you could sort of swallow it. ANd this year it's just weird. Everything about her is off and wrong. These are the times I wish I was a recapper or something at TWOP or a place that the showrunners might see my gripes. ;-)

I read somewhere that they've got a new wardrobe person this season. Which makes sense, I guess. But you'd think someone coming on to the job would have looked at previous seasons and the type of character Beckett is before putting her in "generic 'hawt chick'-wear." I had always liked Beckett's smart and classic clothes, so this is a surprisingly big disappointment.

The hair actually bugs me more, though. I pay a lot of attention to hair, and I loved first season's short, distinctive cut. Now...well, I've come to loathe the long hair. Every. Single. Female. has that hair cut. I am so sick of it, I could scream. Or, better yet, hurt someone.

I have professional hair-cutting scissors. And I know how to use them!

How disappointing! It's no consolation, I know, that the one you wanted is now unavailable for a good reason. Maybe an even better dog is on the way? *crosses fingers for you*

I hope so!! It's such a rollercoaster... and I want it to be as minimally stressful on the kitties as possible, so going back and forth a lot, not knowing, is hard.
