... rather belatedly, of course, that people who've put my sister in their prayers and thoughts might want an update on her. She has had some setbacks, but overall is progressing pretty well. She had a very bad day on Monday, when things got a little scary with the pic line (sp?) and some uncontrolled bleeding, but when I spoke with her yesterday she sounded almost normal, so that was very hopeful. She's walking for little tours around the room, but they still won't let her go home until Friday afternoon or Sat. morning because of bowel things. She said "I never thought my whole life would revolve around my ability to fart."

Her workplace has secured a housekeeper to come clean house for a couple months, and her friends have organized a gardening service to come by, as well. For some reason, this touched me tremendously. One of her best friends is flying down today to spend the next few days with her as she settles in back home, if they let her go. I'm still frustrated by not getting the details about the cancer and the way the doctor won't get back to me, but they are going to do a genetic test on her to find out whether I will probably get this type of cancer as well -- apparently, it has to be done on her, not on me. Believe me, this is no casual piece of information, and I'm going to be looking into this! Anyway, I chalk her successful surgery and recovery so far up to all of my friends, and thank you for your kind thoughts.

It's good to hear she's doing so well. And that she has such a wonderful group of people around her; I was choking up a bit when you mentioned the work people getting her a housekeeper, myself.

I can't believe I'm offering to do this, but I guess I will pray for your sister to fart. :-)

I'm so glad your sister is on the road to recovery. Take care yourself too, okay?

*Very* glad to hear she's recovering, and that she's got a good support crew pitching in. And oh, man, the fart thing--I totally get it because that's what's holding P. back at this point, his innards are still not doing what they're supposed to. (He said to me this afternoon, grumpily, "I never want to hear about my bowels again as long as I live.")

It's got to be hell for you, waiting for more info, and for the genetic test (criminey!). I'll be carrying you in my thoughts, and if you ever need to just blow off steam don't hesitate to drop me a line.

I'm responding to Kat so both of you will be notified, but starting out with more good thoughts for your sister, Gwyn, and I'm so glad to hear about the wonderful people pitching in to help her. It's weird that the doctor won't give you full details -- you're her closest relative, ferchrissake! -- and I can only imagine the tension of waiting for the genetic test results. Sympathies.

And yeah, the bowel thing . . . a friend just had surgery for an intestinal blockage and similarly wasn't allowed home until she could, ahem, prove that the pipes were working from beginning to end -- which allowed for many encouraging remarks along the lines of "Come on, girl, get your shit together!" Except we couldn't say them, because she was surgical staples from crotch to sternum and it hurt to laugh. In a wonderful catch-22, morphine (which is the pain med she was on, and I wouldn't be surprised if your sis and P. are on it too) actually slows down excretion, but if offered the choice between going home a day or so sooner and giving up the morphine, my friend would definitely have chosen to keep the drugs, so . . . sigh.

Hugs and good thoughts to you both.

Very glad to hear that your sis is on the mend and sorry i hadn't commented earlier :) My very best to her.

Hope all is well and good with you too. Not sure if you read, but that whole Seattle trip is a no-go, postponed til another date and all. But looking at what's going on with you during this time, maybe it's for the best. Love to you, sweet!
