I've now finished watching all the DVDs of first season Dead Like Me. I did warm to George, eventually. By then end, especially when she was glaring suspiciously at the kid in the vet's office and trying to prevent him from reaping poor Murray's soul, I was actually liking her quite a lot.

But my heart belongs to... Delores! I love Delores with all my heart. She is hysterical. When she started talking about doing blow and the whole thing with the web cam respondents... I nearly died. And the bowling and the burro... I just adore her. Please tell me she's back in the show in second season. I may never fully recover from the Happy Time going away party, or Fingerman, either, for that matter.

I also love Roxy. I especially loved Roxy when she was getting along with Crystal. That was just... to die for. I still find the mom fascinating in how easy she is to both hate and love, and I think they've done an amazing job with her. Mason has grown on me, as well, though I could live without Daisy. And Rube... I don't know. I don't have the big Mandy Patinkin love many people do, so my jury is still out on him. Sometimes he seems just really mean and wicked, and other times, not so much. Mandy has always bothered me in that I get this feeling like he's got a more sinister personality hiding behind the Mr. Song and Dance thing, and there are a couple other actors everyone I knew loved growing up and I just hated them because I thought they were creepy and had a sinister evil side that no one clearly saw (I tell you, Andy Griffith is Satan -- he really is! everyone's just taken in by his avuncular pretense). There's always been something vaguely creepy to me about Mandy and I don't like his voice singing, so I have trouble warming to Rube sometimes. I liked him in the Cook episode, though. And with the milkman. So maybe there's hope.

But yeah, George is cool. Reggie I worry about. Loved the two gay guys story to ... um... death. Some eps are up, some down, but overall, I'm really wishing I could afford to buy the series. Definitely a keeper and weirdly, made me wish for the Wonderfalls DVDs to be here even more, so Jo, Christy, and I can make our vid. I hope the second season is as good as this one!

Yes, Dolores returns for the second season! And Happy Time is featured quite prominently in several of the episodes.

Cool! I like that icon; that was one of my favorite Happy Time work moments.

Yes, he is

Oh yeah, Andy Griffith is Satan. I'm with you there! Never trust the avuncular ones. And he's suspiciously good in Face in the Crowd...

There was this creepy '70s TV movie about these older guys going dirt-biking and getting trapped out in the desert or something, and I just remember him being EVil in a big way, and I kept saying, see? see? He's eeevil, even they know it! My mom could never understand why I hated it when she watched Matlock.

We just finished DLM Season 1 a few days ago ourselves. It was an extremely rocky start for me but I ended up loving it. My reaction to George was much the same as yours. I love Rube and Mandy Patinkin, and yet I totally see the scary devil nature of his personality hiding under all the sunshine. Yet still, the Rubeness wins me over.

I found 'Nighthawks' a wonderfully eccentric episode and loved the little boy pet reaper in 'Rest In Peace.' And Delores is great. I'm glad to see she's back in Season 2!

Yeah, I felt the same way -- rocky start. I was chatting with [livejournal.com profile] tzikeh though right after I watched the pilot, and she convinced me to stick with it. I was thinking of just putting the rest of the discs on and not really paying attention. I'm glad I did. I liked Nighthawks too. I think that if I just kind of concentrate on Mandy as Inigo, instead of Mandy as anyone else I've seen him as, then I'll probably be okay.

Also with the DLM love!

I've only watched a few episodes when one of Walter's roommates got DVDs from NetFlix. Is that how you are getting yours?

Yeah, Netflix. And I completely forgot to return the last discs this morning, grrr, and since I put myself down in the four a month category now that my free subscription is over, I have to send in that damn disc before I can get anything again!

No love for Mason?

No, no, I said he grew on me. I didn't find him attractive enough to mitigate the annoyance factor. But then when he was hanging out with the old actress, I started to like him, and when he was crushing on George's college friend, I really started to warm to him a lot. By the gay guys episode I found I really liked him. I think that's been pretty much the case with the whole show -- I didn't really think much of the first few eps, it didn't grab me until much later. Mason, in that episode with the gay guys, really changed as a character and I think as a person then. His interactions with them, and his feelings about being a reaper, were really wonderful and gave him more of a profound quality that finally put me in his camp.

Yay! You like DLM! ::love for gwyn expands even more::
I did warm to George, eventually. By then end, especially when she was glaring suspiciously at the kid in the vet's office and trying to prevent him from reaping poor Murray's soul, I was actually liking her quite a lot.

Must admit, i liked George almost instantly. Lazy girl, with some passive-aggressive tendencies and uses sarcasm as much as she can. Hm...i think i may just have related to her strongly :)

I love Delores with all my heart. She is hysterical. When she started talking about doing blow and the whole thing with the web cam respondents... I nearly died. And the bowling and the burro... I just adore her.

Oh, i certainly love Delores too. She cracks me up in so many ways, i can't even say, though you mentioned two incidents where it certainly was highlighted :) And yep, she is definitely back the second season, though i feel as if we don't see her nearly enough this go around.

I also love Roxy. I especially loved Roxy when she was getting along with Crystal. That was just... to die for.

Oh god, that was my favorite Roxy moment too! And i also really love how she is introduced, "She will kick your ass". Ha! Funny, how i loved jasmine guy way back when she was on A Different World. Heh, what a huge change from there :)

I still find the mom fascinating in how easy she is to both hate and love, and I think they've done an amazing job with her.

I really think so too. I love how complicated she is,i feel like she is the best-drawn character so far, and i immmedicately liked her and felt a million different emotions about and for her in just the pilot episode. She continues to be a favorite of mine.

Mason has grown on me, as well, though I could live without Daisy.

Oh, i have an unrepentant love for the fuck-up that is Mason, yes, and the lovely actor inside that is Callum Blue(what a great name). As far as Daisy, there wasn't much to like about her Season 1, she was basically a long blowjob joke. However, i can promise you that reaching season 2, the developments to her character are just really wonderful. And i'm glad for it, because the actress portraying her shows lovely subtle skills and they allow that to come out. However, not much until this season.

I don't have the big Mandy Patinkin love many people do, so my jury is still out on him.

Oh, i am certainly not an MP fan. The last time i liked MP was in "The Princess Bride". I used to watch Chicago Hope and my ears bled whenever he burst into random song there. However, i must say i do like him here. His speech pattern, the way he delivers lines, and yeah, i see what you mean being something more to him than the song and dance, but i lked that. i feel like he's the kind of character you couldn't get too comfy with.

Andy Griffith is Satan -- he really is!

Oh, he really is. I mean, have you seen matlock? ::holds up a cross::

I didn't like sullen teenagers even when I *was* a sullen teenager, so she really got on my nerves. But now I like her. Especially, I think, because of how she interacts with Delores.

Oh god, that was my favorite Roxy moment too! And i also really love how she is introduced, "She will kick your ass". Ha! Funny, how i loved jasmine guy way back when she was on A Different World. Heh, what a huge change from there

I admit, I never thought it possible that I could like Jasmine Guy. But hey, a few years' respite, and pow!

And i'm glad for it, because the actress portraying her shows lovely subtle skills and they allow that to come out. However, not much until this season.

The character I definitely hate (I can't stand that selfish, oblivious, perky blonde thing), but I think a large part of it is the actress -- I see her on tons of shows and she just gets on my last effing nerve. Clearly I have actor baggage, what with her and Mandy and my previous distaste for Jasmine Guy. ;-)

Andy Griffith is like Dick Van Patten to me -- they both hide eeevil interiors with avuncular, friendly, dad-like qualities. I'm sure they're both pervs inside. Absolutely certain. ;-)

Well, as far as Laura Harris, I can name only 2 other places i ever saw her. Once on this old Canadian show called "Fifteen" that i watched when i was around 10 or 11 and later in the movie "The Faculty". I'm sure she's been in other stuff, but nothing i ever paid attention to.

Again, though, about the Daisy character, like i said, she changed drastically this season. So, while i can't say anything in regard to actor baggage, i'd say to definitely wait out final judgement on Daisy til you check out the second season.

I agree with you that Patinkin has that kind of "uh-oh, is he going to freak out and kill me?" thing going on behind it all, but that makes it interesting, to me. And I am now *totally psyched* to see what you think of second season. Because so much of what you've observed is toyed with! YAAY!

And yes, as they say above, Delores is totally back for season 2. It's an odd little show, isn't it? I love and hate Roxy too. Wait on Daisy...
