I had to get up at the crack of 0-dark-thirty this morning to take [livejournal.com profile] feochadn to the airport for a weekend wedding blitz in Dallas. I ended up actually waking up even earlier than the 3:30 am I set my alarm for, because I'm almost always awake then anyway. But once I dropped her off, I headed out to work, and figured I would find a Starbucks and get myself a venti chai. Hardy har. The east side of the Seattle area, Bellevue and Redmond, suck beyond compare. Not a single Starbucks open before 6. Bastards. And there aren't even any cars! Over on my side of the water, there are cars even at 4 am., but not over here at 5:15. It's this big empty black space -- with no freaking open Starbucks. Stupid Bellevue.

Though I am wearing my new Marc Jacobs-designed t-shirt and that makes me feel happy. Sis_r, the silly thing, sent me a thank-you for coming down to do nothing except cough and sneeze and be snotty. These tees are part of the Key to the Cure program for breast cancer (and I guess other gynecological cancers) at Saks, and this one has a nice Peter Maxian graphic on the front and end of the long sleeves (and they're actually long enough for me!), with Jacobs's signature on the back at the neck. I don't look good in t-shirts, especially tightish ones like this (since I'm so fat), but it's from Saks, it's Marc Jacobs's design, and Sis_r sent it to me, so by golly, I'm wearing it. The box was pretty thrashed, but damn, Saks wraps a nice gift: lovely box with the Saks logo, tied up in a stunning silver satin ribbon (keeping that one for future re-use, oh boy), and even the inside tissue paper is lovely and carefully folded.

Too tired and demoralized to do a usage post this week; I will, as the magic 8 ball says, try again later.

You've got me racing over to Saks.com to look at the T-shirts...
I can't believe there's a time when Starbucks isn't open. I would feel far more secure knowing there was always somewhere I could get caffeine.

Dd you have any luck finding them? They're really adorable. I wish I could do cute tees justice, but they aren't that great on me, though this one was really cute, I thought.

This (http://www.saksfifthavenue.com/main/ProductDetail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=3725099&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=3498333&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=41385&bmUID=1097991910771&DCLKSLOT=13) is it, right?
It's very sweet, in any case... seriously considering paying the US shipping cost for it. And I'm sure it looks cute on you! What's the cotton thickness like?

Yup, that's it! And it looks a lot better on Charlize there. Believe me! Tees are a terrible look on me, plus I'm overweight...

It's a fairly thin cotton -- I was a little suprised how much the seams on my camisole showed through. But it's a nice cotton -- very well-made shirt, just lighter weight.

Even hearing the moans and groans about Seattle makes me homesick...being able to picture the roads, the water, the ghostly lack of traffic. And Starbucks. Where we live now, the closest Starbucks is a 50 minute drive away, but occasionally it's worth it to drive and get 4 ventis. In actuality, stepping into a Starbucks is as close to getting back home as it gets. The aroma is always the same, washing over me, as though I stepped into science fiction wormhole - I'm sure that's their corporate goal, and they've succeeded! Eons ago, when we were fresh transplants from Portland, we loved to look down our noses at all of the 'chain' coffee, scoffing. In the real political and economic world I recognize the wrongness of Starbucks. But somewhere along the line, Starbucks drip became what my brain, nose and mouth recognize as the form of all coffee. Wishing for one right now...

I know, I'd always rather get my chai from a small place, but the fact that Starbucks is open when I need them, usually, there in a convenient place, often (50 miles! aiiieee), and they make my chai the way I want it, means I most often go to them. A lot of the small stores use this brand of chai mix that tastes like sawdust, so I won't drink it, and the other places never fail to screw up the fact that I ask for no foam. In fact, the place where I go for my writing group, Uptown Espresso, always adds more foam, and I ask and I plead and I'm really nice about it, but they're just such dicks about it. I've grown to really hate them. Starbucks, though, never fails me on that score.

I hope that things are going better today... snuggle up with your favorite chai, and feel better.
