AND as if the house gift wasn't enough, because, you know, it's pretty hard to top getting your house for a pressie, the contributor copy of the book my essay is in arrived in the mail yesterday. It's not much, but I have an essay in a real honest to god book with an ISBN number and everything. (Sacred Stones by Maril Crabtree, from Adams Media, ISBN 1-59337-113-6!) So I'm pretty darn excited, and I'm also writing a piece for Slate, where I have been working the past six months, on spec that I'm not sure they'll publish, but I can certainly try. I still keep vainly trying for the fiction, but it always seems to be the non-fiction that gets me published.

Quite a weekend, I'll tell you what.

A question: I've seen a couple people on my flist mention some mp3 LJs, and I can't seem to find them now. I think one was called audiogasm or something like that... but nothing resembling it is turning up in the searches.

[livejournal.com profile] audiogasms is no more, but there's [livejournal.com profile] audiography or [livejournal.com profile] teh_music. I think most of the posts are f-locked, though.

Ah. Of course, then I have to ask, how do you get to be its friend? I'm completely new to this and unfortunately no one is terrifically forthcoming about instructions on how to do things. With vids, we (most of us) put our instructions about right clicking and saving as and all that, but no one tells you what the preferred methods are with mp3s. Sigh.

Also, when I read friendsfriends, I come across something called mp3blogaggregate.

I'm so excited for you! Full home ownership, a "real" book publication--it's about damned time you had a run of good news, I think.

Thank you! It all feels weird, especially since I was having a pretty bad month otherwise, and feeling discouraged by a lot of things (including mean people feedback!). Suddenly I had a windfall of good experiences. Now I'm just crossing my fingers I can write a good enough piece for the magazine that they'll accept it.

Congratulations! And that goes for both the house and the book. =)

Not an mp3 blog per se, but [livejournal.com profile] justpopemotion and [livejournal.com profile] justvampemotion are fandom soundtrack communities. Most of the latest posts are derivative and unoriginal, but almost everyone posts cover art along with the music and the early stuff was superb. Justvampemotion is for BtVS/AtS, while justpopemotion is for all other fandoms.

And, of course, there's [livejournal.com profile] teh_music, which was mentioned up-thread.

Oh, thank you. I'll give them a looksee. I'm really jonesing for new music and with the DSL I can now actually DL some things. I'd like to do the try before I buy, though. ;-)

Congratulations on both the house and the book! Also, good luck with the Slate piece.

Here's another mp3 community that hasn't been listed: [livejournal.com profile] talkiewalkie. Also, [livejournal.com profile] negative_utopia is a user who posts regular mp3 rounds from lesser-known artists/bands as well. Hope that helps.
