Lucky, lucky me

_par_avion sent me the extended DVD of The Return of the King, which was so incredibly kind and thoughtful and generous. I have been enjoying it over the past few nights, just loving everything new and the extras (the Viggo-Billy kiss! OMG, that was the funniest thing ever). What a wonderful present.
Then, the astonishing and amazing X, whose art has inspired many people and caused bidding frenzies at cons, made me this cover for my Magnificent 7 story Pilgrim Heart. It captures everything I love about Chris and Vin and the landscape of the west, and how we both see the characters and their interactions with and feelings for each other. I just love looking at this, and am so honored that she created this piece for me. Between this and working on the vid, I desperately wish I had a story idea so I could write more in the fandom. Sigh.
And though she is sick, I am so glad that my sister is done with chemo. It's not much of a present, but it's such a relief that it is over for now, that even though she's miserable it fels like one of the bigger burdens is gone.
I have a conitnuation of my job waiting for me after the new year (though pessimist that I am, I of course am convinced it will fall through) as a regular employee and even though I know it won't last (no, this isn't me being cynical, it is a temporary situation), at least it's long enough to get a few things done before getting back on the hamster wheel. And to celebrate both the holidays and the buyout, management sent us all a bottle of Veuve Clicquot champagne, which is pretty pricey and I'm looking forward to drinking it. Champagne is one of those things that actually is better the more money you spend --I normally don't like it, but expensive stuff=good.
And I think my dad got me an iPod and my sister some peripherals. I don't know for sure, but it's my guess. I would normally be happy about this, but I'm actually kind of cranked if it's true, because the last thing he needs to do is buy me an expensive present after he gave me a freaking house for my birthday! He's in this "you can't take it with you" mode, though, and there appears to be no stopping him.
Of course it's all tempered by the fact that my refrigerator is breaking down (called dad yesterday with "There's a pool of brown water under my fridge... that can't be good, can it?") again. Of course at the holidays. Because it broke down totally on NY's eve last year, so why not Christmas eve this year? I was so hoping to buy a side by side to reduce bending, but it doesn't look like I can fit one in through the doors, alas. Tiny house=tiny appliances. And tempered by the fact that Brian and Dom are not behaving the way they are supposed to in part 5 of Ciudad. Bastards. I had their conversation all mapped out and then they started talking about other things and doing none of the stuff I'd planned and I have no idea why they won't behave.
But I will go look at my pretty when I feel stressed, because then I will remember I have wonderful, talented friends and wonderful family and that I am the luckiest!
