Like a dumbass, I came up with another idea for a paired vidshow and panel for Vividcon this year, based on a conversation I had with
sisabet in her LJ when I left comments for Icebound Stream. I was impressed with her use of outside source in it (OMGWTFPOLARBEARS!) and it started me thinking about other vids that have used it -- and sometimes taken a beating for it. So, the concom accepted my idea... and now I'm all freaked out I won't come up with 45 min worth of vids. Especially since there's usually a lot of scrambling and battling over certain vids among the VJs, who want a vid for their show, and my god, it can get ugly. (joke alert)
I need the help of the vid watchers among my f-list (which, boy, what did I do? Or probably not do is more like it -- I rarely remember to check my info page and man has there been a massive defriending. I guess everyone gave up on me because I never post anything interesting anymore or finished a WIP or something...).
Anyway. Have you seen some cool vids that use additional source -- stuff that's either from a different program, or a vid that uses deleted scenes, or gag reel footage? I'm especially looking for good vids that do this well -- I have seen a few lately that unfortunately didn't do it in a way I considered helpful for the vid, so what I'd really like are some vids that show how successfully it can be done. But if I can't find enough, then I suppose I'll go for the bad!
So far, this is what I'm thinking of for my show:
- Icebound Stream by Sisabet for Due South
- Too Long a Soldier by DJ for Professionals (god, I hope I can get a watchable copy of this -- looks longingly at
tzikeh and her amazing vid library)
- My West Hollywood Lifestyle (Whatever) by Luminosity and Sisabet for Angel
- That excellent Starsky and Hutch vid by Morgan Dawn and Justine Bennet that I suddenly can't remember the darn name of
- The Man Song for The Sentinel by the Cannibals
- Possibly Carol's Highlander vid that uses gag reel stuff set to kazoo music, or
- Alex's Highlander vid It's All Been Done, because it sneaks in at least one scene from The Fifth Element, maybe two, that was used as waste video (the young vidders go "WTF?")
You can either give me suggestions here, or use the form at the Vividcon site. I'd love some more ideas!

It uses lots of Russian news footage - plus footage from the A-Team episode where McCallum guest-starred. And gwyn - I have a copy of Too Long a Soldier. I'm not *certain* about watchability, but I'll check it out for you. Of course, you could head over to deej's lj and ask her as well.

I used 3 clips from another movie in my Jeremiah vid - The Highway (but it was meant to integrate and not call attention to itself).
I'll keep thinking. I know I've seen others.

Date: 2006-05-15 07:53 pm (UTC)Morgan Dawn's one S&H vid (the name of which escapes me currently.
Killa's and my "Opportunities" uses bloop reel footage.
My "Scotland the Silly" is ONLY blooper reel.
I know that there are at least a few ancient S&H vids that make use of the blooper reel, but do I have any idea of names, no. The same for a bunch of older Pros vids that use other apperances of Shaw for older versions of Doyle.
Shallot's "Passion"
In a similar mode, Darcy's "Forever Young" which is overly sweet for my taste but does make good use of other footage to construct a vid for a siries of fanfic. http://www.gypsy-gateway.com/darcy.html
Nudge Ian for some anime options - depending on how you want to count it there are all those ones that have either fan drawings or smoothly incorporate two shows into a single frame (i.e. Tainted Donuts).

Date: 2006-05-15 09:21 pm (UTC)I used Shallot's vid two years ago, which was the only reason I didn't want to add it again, but I may just do it anyway, since I like it so much as an example of this sort of thing.
I thought for some reason you mixed up blooper and real stuff on Scotland. I guess it's my lack of HL knowledge shining through. But good to know about Opportunities -- that one I didn't realize!

Date: 2006-05-15 08:59 pm (UTC)I know that I've thought of a few other vids in the last two months -- I even wrote them down -- but I can't find the list. It will turn up, or I'll remember.
The Cartoon Heroes vid (SG1/SGA) uses behind-the-scenes footage.
