Oh happy day, Raylan fucking Givens is back on my TV. I don't know whether to lie back and have a cigarette or cower in fear -- that was both satisfying and extremely disconcerting for the future.

I think Mags is going to be a great foil for Raylan this year, but I'm almost kind of fearful because she's almost more terrifying than Gio and Bo could ever be. And Jeremy Davies is just always frightening, no matter what he's doing. Though I hope that it won't be constant -- I'd like to see them step away from Harlan evildoers a bit more and give us some of the great standalone stories like the one with Rollie last year.

That opening was killer, with the recap of last season's ending flowing seamlessly into the new action, and I was actually surprised when Boyd pulled Gio's niece out of the truck before she could kill that hapless truck driver. I loved Raylan carrying her into Gio's place -- it's such a very Raylan thing to do. And everyone commenting on his hat, all the way down the line: highlarious.

Interesting that he made the decision to stay, when Dan offered him Miami back again. Oh, Raylan, you are the most self-aware un-self-aware guy ever. I think this will change his relationship to Art in a big way, which I can't wait to see. Loved the scene with Tim and Art and the booze.

There were a lot of interesting layers. I'm going to watch it again to look at things from another angle. Though that girl was preternaturally intelligent in the way only kids on TV can be, I still liked her a lot and am feeling very sorry for her. I liked how Raylan handled the situation at the end, because that is just such a Raylan thing to do, spray gasoline and then talk the guy down from doing something stupid. He's both a man of action and of words. Gotta love the guy.
