After months and months of trying, I finally caught Emma on tape carrying her beloved flea comb around. It was very hard, and it's just a quickie video, but it's a rare sighting -- only a few select people have ever seen her do this. She carries it from room to room, talking loudly to it in meows, trills, and beeps. She no longer does a lot of her other seriously cute, weird behaviors, like hooking her back claws into the carpet, behind her head, and twisting around with her butt up over her head, but I'll settle for the flea comb because it's just high-larious. I set up an imeem account to upload the video, which is here and I also hope to upload more pics of her there so I won't have to deluge LJ with stupid cat pics. that sound in the background isn't a baby crying, it's her talking. She is really loud. Notice also the broken teeth -- years of carrying it have taken most of the teeth off on either end.

ETA: I sent it in to Cute Overload, my very favorite web site. I don't know if I'd be lucky enough to get it on there, but it can't hurt to try.

I know... the rotund part is very sad. I think her weight is coming down in this new diet while we try to see if there's a way to reverse the diabetes, but... the past six months have been really bad in that regard. Poor kid.

It's sooo hard to try to help a pet lose weight - I've been there (prednisone-induced massive weight gain). It's so hard because they just don't understand what's going on. :( But she is a darling yowly thing, and I hope that she recovers beautifully.

Hee, that's adorable! She is pretty loud, isn't she, even with the comb in her mouth. That's impressive.

She's even loud when she purrs -- her purring is so loud that I can't sleep when she does it, because it's like having someone running an engine next to you. And she will go on and on... sweet, but very high decibel, that's my girl.

Oh, God, that's hilarious. She really does talk to it, doesn't she?

Yeah, and the funny thing is, she tends to move it around the house wherever I go. In the day it tends to migrate near the office or bedroom, and in the evening or on weekends, it'll appear in the living room or hall. She likes to be combed with it, too, so there seems to be both a mommy and a good scritches on the skin connection for her.

Trust me, there are worse things she could get attached to. I have a cat who likes to go, shall we say, dumpster diving, and it just gets embarrassing. At least he appears to have given that up in favor of playing with his plush carrot, though.

You should deluge us with pics - she is cute.

I'm afraid you might get what you wish for -- Imeem is a lot easier to upload pics and video to than LJ, so I think I may end up using that a lot more now, and OMG, all I do with the damn camera sometimes is take pics of Emma!

OMG, your kitty icon looks so much like our beloved Kelly cat. She was so sweet. Torties I think are often the sweetest kitties in the world.

I know, they're soo pretty and nice. I used to have a cat that really did look exactly like my icon (there are pictures that provide proof). Sometimes I even slip up and call Bambi by her name.

*laughter*

cat pics not equal to "stupid", just for the record :)

(Annie is... concerned, though, wants to know just who is talking so loudly, when there aren't other cats here)

I wish so bad I could bring a friend for her into the house now that she's getting old, someone who will learn to talk like she does because I know I will miss it so much when she's gone (I"ve had talkative cats before, but never one like her), but she's such a psycho I can't see it happening. She's utterly demented when it comes to other animals.

This behaviour is very, VERY similar to what Belle, the downstairs kitty, does with Roger, her stuffed toy kitten. She won't let you SEE her doing it... if you come across her carrying Roger, she will drop him INSTANTLY, and walk away, all "what stuffed kitten are you talking about? I don't have time for this nonsense." Yet strangely, Roger has appeared in every room in this house, on table tops, in chairs, in the back yard, in the front yard, out in the STREET, (she's not always a great Mom) and if you can approach unnoticed, you will hear her doing that same distinctive YOWLING thing, like she thinks she's a much bigger lion.

OMG, that is HIGHlarious. I've told Emma she is not alone in this behavior but she seems unimpressed. Honestly, I don't even think she realizes in the tiny little walnut brain space that she is doing something. At least it sounds like Belle has an inkling that others would think it funny; Emma acts as if it's all part of kitteh-hood. I wish so bad I'd had a digital camera a few years ago to catch her other weirdnesses she's long stopped engaging in. (But I am at least glad she's stopped taking things out of my bag and hiding them.)

Hee, thank you! I've got another video where I tried to get her as she picks the comb up -- pretty hilarious in its own right -- but then she just kind of gave up and stopped, as if she knew I was filming her because I think she's silly.

We ended up playing it two or three times while our three cats went grumping and growling around the apartment looking for the cat who had dared to invade *their* turf.

They're still slinking around even now, and we're done playing.

Emma is wonderful.

HAH!!! Oh, that is so, so funny. There are times when she's cranky at me for picking her up or whatever, and she screams in my face so loud I think the neighbors must hear for sure, and think I'm killing cats in the house. Jo and Christy can even back me up on this -- she has amazing volume and she talks about everything.

Black and white cats are the best. My tabby does that walking and talking thing with socks.

What IS it about socks? I can never figure out the attraction. Dogs love 'em, cats love 'em... I guess it must just be that they're soft and flexible and baby sized.

Yeah... I am worried about the portly part. She's definitely losing a little weight on the wet kitten food diet, but I don't know if it'll get all the weight she gained so recently and bring the blood glucose down enough so she's not diabetic.

See, you know it's loud when it even impresses the other cats in the world. I've told her she has a set of lungs on her, but she doesn't believe me.

Ohhhhh. CUTEST!

And is there anything better than kitty trills? Not all cats do it, and I have such a soft spot for kitties that do. I once took in a pregnant feral cat (she ran into my garage during a storm), and when she had her kittens, I was just blown away by the way she sang to them -- long, lovely trills that were full of emotion!

My theory is that some mother cats do this, and their kittens grow up to be trillers. Whenever I greet a cat in my neighborhood, I trill at them like my wild baby taught me to. Some cats are very responsive to this kind of approach -- I think they are the ones who were trilled to by their mothers.

Anyway, my theory. Emma is a doll!

Yeah, I figure she must have had a pretty chatty mom, even if she came from a kitten mill. Either that or she picked up chattiness from me! It's funny too because she looks at me when I talk to her with this very happy, loving look, and when she talks to me it's the same thing. It's as if she knows we're talking, even if we don't have a language between us. She just likes to talk.
