My darling [livejournal.com profile] lordshiva, whose inestimable storytelling talents have graced us in Buffy fandom (not to mention Dr. Who recently) under the name Kalima, has finally had her book Erasing Sherlock published, and I have it in my hot little hands. ::does happy dance of book joy::

It's the last, apparently, of the Faction Paradox SF books from Mad Norwegian Press, and I highly, highly recommend you get your hands on it. I think it's probably easiest to order through Amazon, alas, but if you love good writing and great story ideas, you won't be disappointed. Or maybe if you have a great bookstore nearby, you can order it. Really, seriously, go buy!

I had the privilege to work on it a bit in a previous incarnation because one potential publisher wanted Kalima to cut 40,000 words! (And then the bastards didn't even publish it!) The best part was that I got to spend so much time talking to her for real, instead of only online through LJ.

I know it's been a trauma, sweetie, and I know you're worried about the future, but I hope that this is a good sign that people are now going to recognize the incredible writing talent you have and this is the first of many stepping stones. I am thrilled to have your book, and I hope that we can meet up sometime so you can autograph it for me. You are truly gifted and I am proud to know you.

Yay for fans getting published!

Do I have to know much about SF or the Faction Paradox series to enjoy this?

Nope. Not at all. The books are all standalone, published under that rubric, basically, and it's not hard SF, just involves time travel and a famous character and all that juicy good stuff.

You don't have to be a Sci fi fan at all. And you don't need to know anything about Faction Paradox (much like the protagonist:-) It was great fun to write and hopefully more fun to read.

Mystery? Romance? Paranormal romance? AU? There's no description at all at Amazon.... :(

I am very, very bad at categorizing books. But it has time-travel, romance, action/adventure, mystery solving, and character-based story development and some nifty role-reversal all wrapped up into one package!

from the publishing perspective...

You know for all your modesty you are very good at writing reviews and the like! Do you have time to write a quick customer review for the Amazon site? I clicked on your Amazon link to find out more about the book and, as others have already said, there's sadly nothing informative about the book there at all. Take pity on the poor would-be book buyer! -em.

I hadn't even thought about that, but you make a good point -- I could at least, since it's been a while and would be hard to write an actual review, get some info up there in case people can find it and don't know what they're looking at!

Mine is sitting in the West Portland post office, according to my tracking info... I hope it makes it out here tomorrow in time for it to be delivered...

I can't wait to re-read it, but a friend has already borrowed my copy!

OMG! My mom got her copies today (she bought too many and I told her not to buy any because geez, my mother gets em for free, but she was good mom and purchased to get the ball rolling anyway...) I was getting worried because I still don't have my advanced copies:-) and I never saw galleys and OMG. And it looks very slim but there's a lot packed into it. I still ended up cutting 40,000 words. I hope and pray the amusing cliches I played with still come off as amusing and not something else. And thank you thank you so much for ordering it. I love you. Enjoy. I'll be coming to Seattle next year to visit with the sister and old friends so we must meet up! Hurray!

Oh, that will be so cool! I would so love to see you. ANd I really need an excuse to get to Portland, too, so that's always a possibility.

I am so thrilled the book is out, in whatever state. I hope this is the first of many.
