Vid beta?

Would anyone on my flist be willing to beta a vid for the movie Big Eden? I'm almost finished (I have the last 1/8 to go) and it's for Escapade so I'll need to be done by end of month with my own tinkering and any beta input (that is, assuming we have a vid show, which I'm starting to wonder about by now). It's very very slow and still kind of long, even though I've cut a minute of song.

All I ask is that you 1) follow through if you volunteer and 2) don't try to remake the vid as you would do it if you're a vidder yourself. I've had a lot of people bail on me without explanation on vid betas lately, and it's left me feeling kind of demoralized, especially when they criticize something later they could have helped fix if they'd followed through. So, I'd really like you to want to help me make the best vid I can that is still, you know, my vid. (I understand the temptation to tell someone how to make something as you would do it, and do it better, honest I do. But I don't think that's very helpful to anyone in terms of critique of the work someone's done... call me kooky.)

And put your hand down, mlyn -- I know you already are willing.

Also, you should rent Big Eden. It's the sweetest, loveliest movie ever. I adore it.

besides not having any vid experience, I'm completely unfamiliar with the source material, so probably wouldn't be that helpful.

but I generally enjoy your vids so much, I might not see any problems/issues even if I did know Big Eden

Believe me, you don't have to speak vidder to be a good beta -- in some cases, it's more helpful to have that general viewpoint of "I didn't get this part" or whatever, because it's a less studied reaction.

I love Big Eden (and I'm so excited that you're vidding it!!) and I'm more than willing to beta. I'm not sure how much help I can really be, though. After all these years, I still forget what to call certain effects, so perhaps I'll be best in the impressions and perceptions department. *g* I'm quite honest, however. I mean, really honest. So if total honesty's not for you, I'm not the right beta for you.

Also, I'm not vidding for Escapade, so there's that.

Actually, you couldn't be more perfect if you tried! I don't want to say it's a lot like Hurt, because, man, no way, but in the sense that it's a slow song, very quiet, with lots of longer clips, and I'm sticking to dissolves and fade in-fade outs, much the same way Hurt was. Also, you're one of the few people who didn't jump on my ass about using a slow quiet song for Laura Roslin, so I know you won't bring a lot of baggage to that, and it's a comfort, believe me.

And as far as honesty, remember, I grew up in the Media Cannibals. It doesn't get more flay-your-skin-off honest than that, and it's what I always expect (also, Jo is usually the one who sees my vids first, and no one's more brutal and right than she is).

For those of us who know nothing about the beta process, could you tell us what a vid beta would look for? What would be considered concrit?
