Home, for the first time ever in the history of VVC, on time. I didn't think it was possible to get out of O'Hare within the same half of the day as your flight scheduled time.

Had a good time for the most part even though I was patient zero for everyone's con crud and ended up losing my voice (can I just note that it is painful? Losing your voice isn't just, you know, "oh hey, I can't talk" it's "oh hai, I can't talk because my throat is on FIRE with the flames of Hades and my lungs are filled with toxic avenger crud that my body is trying to hack out of it."). I will do more thorough reports when i feel better (I think I have to figure out how to get antibiotics from the doc without being able to speak and make an appt.) Poor mlyn had to interpret for me for everything from checkout at the hotel to giving my dad directions when he picked us up at the airport but we needed food dammit, and now. I also want to make a special shout-out to therienne, who kindly allowed me to tag along with her and aka_arduinna when I was getting weepy over people being mean to me about losing my voice and having the cold and cough. Made a blah afternoon hugely better.

I will have my vids and more about them up later. I have hated the abrupt beginning of the Charlie Jade vid since we made it, and I couldn't quite figure a way to make it work, none of the usual tricks of fades or what have you seemed to fix it. But i talked with absolute destiny a bit and I feel like I should try again so I want to niggle with that a litle. And I need to adjust credits for the challenge vid. The two Club VV vids should be able to go up as soon as I feel less like a walking furnace.

Olive was happy to see me for about ten minues and then the "new mommy! I remember you! New mommy's home!" phase was gone. Oh well. I still like her.

You know, truthfully, and not in a self-pitying or snivelly way, I honestly don't know. A couple people wanted to say something, but no one else had anything to say, and it got the least discussion among the challenge vids. I wasn't sure whether that meant failure or just "yawn, another Firefly vid by gwyn" or what. Later on, though, a lot of people wanted to say that they liked it, so maybe they just liked it privately or something. Maybe people are afraid to say they like boring old fashioned vids after the post-post-mod take on things that the premieres show invokes. It's impossible to tell.

Also, it came right after Barkely's vid, so that was not a great position!

It was so good to meet you in person, even if I didn't get to until I was in my oh-my-god-my-social-skills-are-tapped-OUT phase (and you, apparently, were in the praying-for-death phase of a really bad cold). I hope I didn't come off as mean; I was entirely happy to meet you, just, you know. Socially unskilled.

Congratulations on breaking the O'Hare curse. I had been thinking O'Hare was only a curse if you were flying through it, because for the first time ever I managed to get to and from that airport without delays, but apparently, no, it's really just cursed, and I got lucky this time. And so did you. Shall we celebrate, or will this make the O'Hare gods hurt us next time?

When I got home, I ripped out the DVD set and showed a handful of vids to Best Beloved ("Oh my god you have to see these RIGHT NOW!"); the Charlie Jade vid was one of them. You made me want to see the source. And...seriously, you know me. You know how rare it is for me to say something like that. In other words, I loved it.

Okay. Massively con-lagged. Nearly dead. Still happy to have seen you. And your vid. (Oh, and the trick to getting to the doctor's office if you don't have a voice is to get someone else to make the call. I've had to do this a number of times, and after someone says, "Yes, I'm calling to make an appointment for [name], because she's lost her voice," they get you in pretty quickly. Remember, internet friends can do this. More easily, one would think, because you could have them on IM while they have the office on the phone.)

I know, I wish I'd found you earlier, when i could at least talk, because I wanted so much to talk to you at length. I owe you so much because you have helped my vids get out to a larger audience than I would normally ever have had, and I wish I'd had the chance to really thank you in person and maybe even buy you a drink!

Me and O'Hare are as unmixy as it gets. I never have problems like airlines stealing my seat out from under me and putting me in crap seats or falling down, or whatever. Just delays. But O'Hare seems to hate me with a special passion. At least we got home on time, sort of, for a change! I consider that progress. Now if I could just fine an airline that won't take my seat...

And lo, Charlie Jade spread throughout the land, and there were good tidings of great fan vids... I hope. See, I want more people in it because then *I* get stuff, and it's all about me!

Hey, glad you made it home okay. Hope your con crud goes away fast, and that I didn't make it worse by making you talk too much. It was a pleasure to meet you!

I must also report that I am still in Chicago in a roomful of people watching Charlie Jade. I think your and Jo's vid pimped just about the whole con into a new fandom.
