Remodel, day 30

I has a roof! Well, the plywood part of it, anyway. Tomorrow I might get actual roofing on top of that. I also have huge open space. They knocked the old exterior wall out, and it's just... ginormous. Pretty soon I should also have insulation and drywall. That will be nice because right now, the shower is just exposed pipe and nothing but Wonderboard and tile between me and the much colder outside. It's remarkably damp and cold in there.
All trussed up with nowhere to go

And then I got a whole roof on top of the trusses. The roof is what they call "pinched" -- it's basically just pushed into the existing roof, and the trusses and beams go every which way up there.

These two pics are of the interior after the old exterior wall was torn down. When I first saw it, I almost couldn't quite wrap my brain around how big it was. I heard my dad talking to Brent, so I opened the little temporary door and looked in and when I saw Dad, all the way at the old back door, which Brent tacked up there till I get the new one, I waved at him and said "Hello-o-o-o-o". It will of course be cozier when the cabinets and counters come in, but... right now it just seems so vast to me. One pic is looking into the house from the back door area, the other is from the wall between the living room and kitchen looking to the back door.

Brent found this horseshoe in some of the digging he's had to do. It has to have been there since before the house was built, when a stream ran through the area that is my backyard. Today, he put it up above the door.

Olive has so far brought me two live mice, into the house. Tonight she dragged the poor tortured creature under the bed, and then proceeded to let it go, catch it, let it go, catch it, ad infinitum until I finally managed to catch her with the mouse in her mouth and throw her out the door. I just... I hate the way cats torture animals and leave them there in hideous condition to die a slow and miserable death. So even though I know she's giving me gifts, I can't stand it (also, the cats always bring in live mice, and I don't really want them escaping where I can't catch them). But here she's just hanging out by the lightpole, looking sweet as pie. I say, Don't believe it!

Date: 2007-09-27 05:27 am (UTC)We're trying really hard to make our yard pretty with help from my cousin who is a graphic designer and loves gardening. It's something I never thought I would enjoy and yet I really like it.
