Validation!

One of the things I constantly bristled at during the remodel was the statement everyone made when they saw samples of tiles, the wood picked for the cabinets, the paint colors, etc.: "That's going to be really dark." Yes, I know they are on the darker side, but the floor and wall tiles, for instance, had silver iridescence on them, and I knew there would be tons of interior lighting to bounce off the wood surfaces and the tiles. Not to mention the stainless steel appliances. In summer, the kitchen will get about 12 tons of sunlight flooding it, so was never worried about it.

I felt enormously validated when I caught up on some of my favorite HGTV shows the other night. One of them, Designed to Sell, featured my tiles in their big kitchen makeover. And the designer kept going on about how modern, desirable, gorgeous, hip, etc. they were, and everyone kept talking about how it was the kind of thing that would sell a house -- even the people who came to the open house. Yes! I have good enough taste to be on an HGTV show of my own.

Quite some months ago at a bash with the local gang, we had HGTV on in the background because mockerbee and I were talking about the remodel game. And a lot of the group was really critical of the designs, especially from one of my fave designers on the network, and at one point I mock-snapped at one of them about how their house wasn't in any condition where they could criticize a designer's work. At that point, wickedwords cracked me up with how that would be my design show on HGTV -- "Design Fury." I would come blowing through people's houses like a hurricane, beating them up about their taste or lack thereof, and then telling them what to do. I absolutely love the idea of having a Design Fury show. Really, that's like the best idea ever. And I have enough good taste to host it!

Maybe I should sign up for next year's Design Star. Except that I could never do a space plan to save my life. I just need a show called Decor Star to come along, and then I can unleash my design fury fu.
