After some discussion with [livejournal.com profile] sdwolfpup, I'm doing her annual Vividcon Premieres vid poll, which is a lot harder to put together than it looks. I tip my hat to SDW for doing it all these years. I asked her about whether she was posting one, since she (sob!) isn't able to come this year, because I realized I always liked seeing what others were filling out the poll with. And I need a break from working on my own vid. What are you bringing this year? I know one premieres vid already to a movie fandom so obscure it will not be known by anyone else, and I will be filling it out with Mad Men, if I can finish the damn thing. I'm starting to have doubts about it. I have a feeling I know what the big two fandoms will be this year.

ETA: And crap, I just realized I left out Leverage, which I meant to go in the second set of radio buttons. Sorry!

I may possibly have a vid. I'm not sure as I have other things that have earlier deadlines that are not yet done. Also, frankly, I'm ambivalent about putting one in premieres - it adds yet another layer of complication when putting together the show. Also I have one vid premiering in CV and another in All In The Family so that also takes off some pressure. If I do it it will be short (under two minutes) and without much substance, simply to add a counterpoint to play with when arranging things and give everyone a mental break - not because I expect it to be a superlative vid.

I totally understand your feelings on the matter. I do hope that you will do one, but that's just because I'm selfish and it's been so long since we've had a new vid from you. (Hey, remember when you were working on the X-Files vids? Those were the days, right?) Also, I'm doing the vid review, so it would be cool to be able to talk about it.

I was going to ask you crankily "well then what show?" but then I remembered you mentioning you might try to do The Beast. I completely forgot you said that -- but you didn't say for sure. And I forgot one of my favorite shows, as well -- Pushing Daisies. I kept trying to think of the things people talk about on their LJs. You never post!

Date: 2009-06-08 05:26 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] feochadn.livejournal.com
Yep, it's the Beast -- currently about 3/4 finished. Would be further if I hadn't spent the ENTIRE WEEKEND watching remastered Star Trek TOS episodes and staring at Bill Shatner's ass a disturbing amount of the time. I suck majorly...but, seriously, have you SEEN these things?!? (The remasters, not Shatner's ass).
I should go to bed.
As soon as I finish "Day of the Dove."
Ooooh, pretty...

Ch. 11 has been showing Trek in the remastered form, and bless their hearts, they're showing them in 4:3. It's weird because i expect the worst from them -- they don't show anything in HD here and it's disappointing, to say the least. But I recorded Tribbles a couple weeks ago, and have it set for Spock's Brain next weekend, I think. You should come see Tribbles here. I kept it because it's stunning like whoa. You can see the pilling on Kirk's casual Fridays uniform shirt (what WAS that surplice wrap top, anyway?) I didn't think the remasters would look that good on a plasma screen, I was afraid of too much detail, but it does look really good.

And yeah, so does Kirk's ass.

From: [identity profile] feochadn.livejournal.com
Oooh, I have great affection for that stupid green shirt (I'm kinda weirded out by how much he wears it, though, I didn't remember it being around that much!). I'm floored by the quality of these remasters -- not only the pilling, but you can see the nap on the velour and judge the relative temperature of the studio on any given day...even on my TV. I should come over sometime and bring these discs (I found seasons 2-3 at Cellophane, cheap!) -- the tribbles one has ALL the tribbles eps (cartoon and DS9) and it's astonishing how BAD the DS9 ep looks in comparison. All hail 35mm master negs! And call me a non-purist traitor, but I'm diggin' the digital effects; even the Papier-mache Planet-eating Cornucopia of Doom looks good (well, less like a giant grey doobie).

Date: 2009-06-09 10:25 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] gwyn-r.livejournal.com
Totally -- bring them over! Let's ogle that ass!

Oooo, I haven't seen the cornucopia of doom for a long time.

Dude, there were MORE tribbles eps? I never knew that. I knew DS9 did mirrorverse stories, but I had no idea there were other tribbles eps.

Now I really really want to see Mirror, Mirror. Right now. "Your agonizer, Mr Kyle!"

35 mm for the win.

I'm presently undecided between two, one in Jossverse and one that isn't on your list. I may well go down to the wire on picking which one to send, knowing me.

I've got an SPN vid farmed out for beta right now. That'll probably be my Premieres vid, unless a) the beta finds a large number of really, really hard to fix problems or b) my software suddenly decides that it hates the file, and starts crashing every time I load it.

BOTH happened to the vid I was working on this time last summer. *looks frantically for wood to knock on*

I was going to do a SPN vid, but then my external hard drive ate my source. :/

I was going to do a Multivid, but then I realized my narrative so TANGLED I wasn't sure how to go about it anymore.

I am doing some kind of film vid for premieres. I've had the idea for a long time but it's so not working out in the vid the way it looked in my head. I might ditch it for yet ANOTHER movie.

Basically, I just want something that I can feel passionate about and not get hosed up in right now. I don't need to be all "I bend your brains and push vid boundaries". I just need something that can be thought well of, since my vidding skillz are not yet that considerable. :P

Date: 2009-06-10 06:10 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] gwyn-r.livejournal.com
I hear you on that. I've given up trying to even predict what will please people there in regards to the bend your brains thing, and I think the last few years have been easier in that respect -- I just figure nothing will impress anyone that I can do, so I'll just make what I want to make.

Well, it will be (almost is!) done... it just won't be my selection for the Premieres.

(I know, I know, all the deep/dark/disturbing/depressing types end up in the Premieres, but I'm working *hard* on the Dollhouse one! :-/ )
