Man, sirens and sirens and sirens all day long up on the main drag. I assume heat-related illnesses. 101 sez my temp gauge, and it's already 94 in the house, with the afternoon being the worst time as the sun comes around and hits the house full on about 4 to 8 p.m.

I want to capture clips but I can't stand the thought of firing up the super hot external drive. Maybe later. I also have a fic to beta, but my god I'm so sleepy... I can't stay awake during the day, but I can't sleep at night. WTF.

I hope my fellow Seattleites/Northwesterners are finding some way to keep cool. You remember that classic Twilight Zone ep where the people are burning up in the heat because the earth has changed orbit and is drawing closer and closer to the sun? And then we find out at the end that the main woman is hallucinating it because they are in fact freezing to death? I wonder if maybe this is a hallucination...

So far I've only heard one siren go by today, thankfully, but that's more than we normally get here.

It was quite a change, moving up here, to realize that the hot period is actually 3-5 (or 4-8) rather than the 1-3 (or 12-4) that it is down in SoCal. Makes for weirdly loooong afternoons when it's hot like this because I still have some of that cognitive dissonance of "at least now at 2pm it won't get any hotter! OH WAIT." Hee.

I dread 4 p.m. when it's hot out. My house turns into an oven and it's so small, there's like nowhere to go.

Usually when we get super hot or super cold, the humidity drops to nothing. It's tradition! But for some reason this one we got the extra humidity with it and that just made it so horrible. I feel like we're survivors of a natural disaster or something.

Vidding is surprisingly hot, isn't it? Hot computer, hot drives ... not the best heatwave activity. (But then, what is?)

1) The iced drink is your friend.

2) How humid is it? If it's below 25%, run a load of towels through handwash cycle and set the spin to the lowest setting. Open the windows and tack these to the frames and put a fan there to help suck the air in. Instant swamp cooler.

I don't know that I have ever peed as much in a 3-day cycle as I have the past few days. I drank so many iced beverages that it was ridiculous. Good thing I always keep multiple ice trays in the freezer!!

I envy you -- I was really reluctant to leave because I would have to close doors and windows, making it even worse. Wed it got to 97 in the house and I couldn't handle the thought of leaving when what little air could get in would be shut out.

I'm in the same boat as you -- right now it's 35C/95F, and the average for Victoria at this time of year is usually 22C/71.5F!

I am absolutely MELTING. I've got fans in the bedroom and living room, but that doesn't help much, especially in the bedroom which is south-facing. Argh.

I know the rest of the US and Canada is laughing at us for being such wienies, but dammit it's HOT.

I think that's one of the things I hate about transplants -- they're always calling us heat wimps, but that's why we live here -- so we don't have to have extremes of weather. We know the Northwest and what it's like and we love it for that. Every time someone starts spouting off about how it's not that bad, I want to punch them in the face and say, "Then go the fuck home." But I'm not a very nice person. ;-)

I've been thinking not about vidding, which I don't do, but about that "Twilight Zone" episode; how could one not? Of course, elijah_brown and I have been fantasizing about Antarctica a lot, too. How did the new house handle things? Were you able to get it cooled down with any efficiency? I think the cats were blaming me for the heat -- it was like they kept coming in expecting me to fix this and then sullenly wandering out to try to find someplace cooler, though there really wasn't one.
