Is there a way to ban an IP address?

I'm getting deluged with spam comments in a couple of old LJ posts. They seem to have the same or similar headings, but they're mostly anonymous (although I've had a fair share of LJ user spam, as well). I can ban user names, but is there a way to ban IP addresses? I finally added a captcha for anonymous comments, which I really hate doing because I have a handful of friends who comment here who don't have journals. But it doesn't seem like there's very much LJ lets us do to unbury ourselves from spam. Man, I really don't want to limit comments to only users or friends.

I've had the same problem lately. As far as I know, you can't ban an IP address. You can report spammers as suspected bots and LJ will delete their accounts.

The only thing that worked for me was restricting comments to registered users, which allows those without accounts to comment with Open ID, which was OK for me because I don't get anonymous comments any more. Sorry, I didn't read you clearly enough before. Does the captcha work?

So far, nothing seems to be doing the trick. I've applied and reapplied the Captcha thing three times now, but they seem able to get past it or something. I don't understand enough about the interwebs to know how. I so fucking sick of this. Every time I log in there's 20 more spam messages on the same three or four posts, from the same IP addresses.

I guess at this point I'm going to have to block commenting in my LJ... I hate it so much, but I'll have to let my non-journaling friends know.

You could try disabling comments on those old posts, to see if that stops them. This seems like the least effective spam program yet, since the only one likely to see the ads is the single LJ owner.

It always amazes me if I'm in places where plants that I only know as tiny indoor decorative plants grow outdoors, or in the wild, and are so much bigger and brigher than I could ever imagine.

The ti plants were amazing in this skin treatment I had one day -- the massage therapist told me that when he was a kid, if they had a burn or rash or anything, they were taught to pick a leaf and apply it to the skin because it has cooling properties, and it totally does! It's like a cold pack in leaf form! Just astounding. Plus they're beautiful -- what more could you ask for?
