I thought I'd recced this back when it came out, but I can't seem to find any evidence of it.

A story about fealty and destiny, spies and secrets, and the things we do to hold onto power.

This is a fantastic long, plotty, slow burn story where Jack gets to be David's warrior boyfriend and spymaster, plus a little bit more. I love any fic where Jack gets to be a competent badass, but the fact that this is such a rara avis in Kings fic with its length and great writing elevates it even more.

Do you need to know the source to follow this? I do have a loyalty and competency kink but no idea about the fandom, except for the occasional gif set on Tumblr and that iirc I watched a vid by you once.

Hmmm...well, that is a really good question. Some of it's dependent upon Jack's history, in that the setup capitalizes on certain things he's done in the series. But it makes sense to me just because of course I've watched it many times. Maybe read the wikipedia article or something,just to get a sense of who the other characters are and why they might be important. Also, there's a fair number of original characters in the fic, so...I guess maybe you wouldn't need to know that much... It's a very good story. I suppose you could just start reading and see if it makes any kind of sense, and if you're too confused (the beginning is a definite misdirection), back button.

There's definitely some good stuff out there--a lot of us have dipped our toes in, especially to fix what we thought was missing in the canon.
