gwyn: (yuletide lights)

Hey, if you missed my earlier post about sending out holiday cards, it's here and I would love to send out cards, so feel free to add your name to the screened comments. I have sooo many cards and sooo many stamps.

Hopefully, I can make some progress, any progress, with my Yuletide story, which is not getting written. It just doesn't seem to want to come. I finally got a few paragraphs tonight, but last night I spent two and a half hours Facetiming with [personal profile] minim_calibre trying to figure out how I want to tackle this. The smart move would probably be to default, but I've never defaulted before, so. Last year I wrote what might be one of the best things I've ever written in a super short time frame, so maybe I can pull this off, but it's not looking likely, as the Magic 8-Ball would say.

The past few years, I've only pulled out the bare minimum of Christmas stuff--lights to put in some windows, the outdoor backyard lights, and a few odds and ends, plus my light-up Rudolph for the front even though the most important part, his very shiny red nose, doesn't light anymore and you can't fix it because it's poorly designed. But this year I definitely needed more stuff, and I've got lights all over the place and wreaths and decorations, plus my little changing color fiber optic tree that plugs in to my laptop. My house is normally like an obstacle course, but now it's a complete hazard to move around in.

One of my neighbors came by the other day to help me pick the last of my fuyu persimmons, which I couldn't reach on the tree. I feel like this year I bested the squirrels, crows, and raccoons a bit better than last year, where I lost dozens and dozens of my persimmons, which I'd hoped to take to the food bank, to the evil critters. Squirrels and raccoons are just stomachs on legs, the bastards. She turned out to be a nice lady who was so completely tickled by having fresh picked organic persimmons. And last night I had the last of my own that I've been letting ripen in the windows. It's definitely getting harder and harder to get all ofthem off the tree on my own--age is such a disappointment. I don't recommend getting older.
