Coming around again

gwynThe always wonderful sdwolfpup has a Vidder Love Meme going on, and it is awesome seeing all the love pouring forth for all these wonderful vidders. I haven't even touched on half the people I want to leave comments for, but I hope to at some point (I have a thread here but I don't really expect anything).
Also, I wanted to thank those of you who left me birthday wishes -- I still have some replies to make, but it was really nice to see. The birthday went much nicer than I could have ever expected, especially after so many weeks of feeling really miserable and lonely. The amazing and wonderfulkillabeez and her amazing and wonderful hubbie took me to lunch at one of my favorite places in Seattle, Le Pichet, somewhere I don't go often enough. It was perfect and such great company, and I felt so honored that they invited me and came down to Seattle for shopping and b-day eating.
After lunch, we moseyed over to Hole in One donuts, home of the magnificent baby donuts, and I discovered that it has been renamed. Fortunately, the donuts are still the best donuts I have ever had anywhere, and the same little tiny baby donut shape (I call them baby donuts because when I went to work at this cool design firm downtown, people would bring them in to share and that's what some of the designers had termed them, and it stuck with me). The powdered sugar ones nearly explode when you bite into them, so I wore quite a bit of my powdered sugar for the rest of the day. After that, we stopped at Le Panier French bakery, had hot drinks, but neither Killa nor I could manage to stuff our pastries in by that point.
Then they dropped me home, and I headed off to spend some time withtrelkez and belmanoir, because Greensilver had cooked a Thanksgiving dinner that day, and I managed to arrive just in time for yet more good food. It was a nice quiet capper to a lovely, lovely day, and I made plans to help feed Belmanoir's new obsession with Nicolas Lea by showing her a lot of old skool Krycek stuff from my X-Files days -- even though I wasn't a Krycek fan at all, a lot of that stuff still stays in my brain.
I ended up buying that ring I posted about a while ago. I got the Glacier one -- it's a little different, definitely not as blue as the picture, but I got it in time to take it up to the cemetery and leave some flowers (the winter-blooming camelia I got from my mom when I moved in here is in full fragrant bloom right now) for sis_r and show it to her, as it were. It's so strange, I don't really believe in an afterlife, yet I go there and talk to mom and sis_r all the time. It's still hard to have a birthday alone after a lifetime together, but having a few thoughtful, lovely people in your life makes it a lot easier to handle.

Date: 2009-12-03 09:43 pm (UTC)Ralph doesn't believe in an afterlife and yet, he still visits his sister's grave 3-4 times a year and brings something for it every time.
I think it's in part about dealing with the way that our friends and family do have an afterlife ... in our memories of them, and in the bits and pieces we are able to share with others.
