Observe my bitter ranting!

If you're like me and you HATED the Southland season/possible series finale last week, you might be interested in this survey at the TNT/Southland Facebook page. At this point, since TNT hasn't yet said whether they'll renew it and so most of us assume they won't (and frankly, most of the fans seem to want them not to, since no one really likes to think of what they would try to do with that horrible finale), it's mostly just an opportunity to vent, and there's some weirdness with the list of characters that confused me in spots. But having a chance to vent at TPTB is kind of a nice thing when you've been walking around with flecks of foam all over your chin from your rabid teeth-gnashing. It felt oddly calming and upsetting at the same time.

One thing I made sure to say was how much I valued that this was a show with a capable, competent, smart gay man in a lead role who, at least at first, was stable and strong.

I don't see a review/reaction from you about the finale -- where should I look to find one? Or are you willing to say what happened? I know these things can be painful ...

Yeah, I haven't formulated a way to talk about it yet...I really should sit down and write something, at least to try to figure it out.

I deleted it unwatched, and after a week, was so angry about that (among other things on my TV in the past month) that I canceled DirecTV. So, yeah.

I watched the last 2 episodes.

Yeah, even my husband was *pissed* about a certain storyline and he's not fannish.

OTOH, I'm blue about the fact that Cudlitz will probably be overlooked for an Emmy.

I've got the whole season queued up on my DVR, but I haven't watched any of it yet... with the earlier seasons, even though it was good, it was often a hard show to watch, and I kind of had to brace myself to watch it when I was in the right sort of mood. Should I give this season a miss, then?

You know, it's hard to say. I know some people who were really impressed with the season. They cite the Peabody award and everything. But I felt like there were so many problems, not the least of which was the continued downward spiral into complete dickwaddery that is Ben's storyline. He gets even worse than he was last season, even starting to act like a racist/sexist/homophobic douchebag. Then you throw in Lydia having all these troubles with the baby (I have huge issues with shows saddling women with babies and then making it seem like it's a punishment, not to mention that no show seems to be able to have a central female character who doesn't have kids) and this constant, never ending piling up of misery on Cooper...I dunno. Someone on a forum, maybe TWOP, said something about how even an LAPD cop wouldn't have the unending misery being piled on them all the time the way Cooper and Lydia did.

So, yeah...if you want to remember the show when it was good and there was some nice character stuff, maybe skip it. If you're in it for the acting, though -- well, Cudlitz has been unbelievable all season, but especially these last episodes. He blew me away in every scene.
