I saw Pacific Rim finally last week, and I just loved it. Not that there aren't all kinds of problems with it (the skience, oy, and the skientists, oy with a side of vey), and things that bugged me, but overall, I really loved it. A lot of that has to do with the fact that Idris Elba and Max Martini. And Idris Elba and Max Martini frequently wandering around in the frame together; in fact, it seemed like Max was always at Idris's side for major portions of the character stuff and I couldn't be happier about that. What DID they do when they went in that room together while Chuck and Raleigh were fighting like dumbasses?

I see on Tumblr that there seems to be a slight interest in the two Hot Dads. I can really get behind this. I can't even tell you how happy I was when I found out that Max was playing one of the Jaeger pilots; I figured it'd be a teeny tiny role, but it turned out to be a decent sized role and he was so good, and so hot, and man, I would kill a person for those aweswome boots he wore.

However, if there's a Hot Dads fandom, I can't seem to find any fic for said hot dads. I would even happily take some fic for Raleigh and Mako if it treats Mako with respect. But it seems like everything I can find already at AO3 is crossovers, and I really generally do not enjoy crossovers. If there was a crossover with something I cared about, maybe, but I mean, I liked the characters in the actual movie, so...

I fucking hate trying to search on AO3. It's just such a fucking nightmare. There seems to be pages of fic already, but I can't winnow out the crossovers. They don't seem to be tagged as crossovers, anyway. It leaves me feeling frustrated and ragey. So, anyone got any good PR fic to rec, that isn't a crossover, and bonus points if it involves Stacker or Herc, or both?

I'm glad I didn't see it in 3D, because I think I would have had a big headache. It was so dark. And I did that thing afterward where I was all "Why didn't they do... And why did they do... And that didn't make sense when they..." and the friend I saw it with was all, "Stop doing that! Just enjoy it for being a big dumb fun movie!" I'm sad that it's done less well at the North American box office, but I do hope that the Asian releases will see its profits soar. They could really have used a good sound engineer, though. I think I missed half the dialog behind all the noise. I always expect more on the tech side from del Toro.

I will be excited to get this one on DVD, though. Hopefully there will be some actual lines for the Crimson Typhoon crew, and the Russians in a director's cut. I loved them both even with what little we saw of them. It was interesting for me because as a twin, I could really grok what they were talking about in terms of connecting minds, and the way the pilots needed to be with each other. And what it feels like to lose the person you're connected to. That really affected me way more than I expected. I will be curious to see what they might have cut out of the movie's theatrical release.

Nnnnnggh he's playing a SEAL? My body was not ready for that.

Max Martini + Scott Foley in the Unit. I still think about that sometimes. A lot.

And even his cameo as Steve's ex-partner in Hawaii Five-0 practically set Alex O'Loughlin alight. It has to be the testosterone, you're right, because seriously, the dude has chemistry with the set dressing, let alone the other dudes in the cast. Unf.

I watched the Captain Phillips trailer as soon as you mentioned the movie and I was all whereishewhereishewhereishe and then THE VOICE. Humina.

Since you mentioned Numb3rs, I realised that I mixed the two up - he definitely lights up Rob Morrow as his ex-partner in Numb3rs (boy howdie) - I can't actually remember what part he plays in H50!? But I have a strong, strong feeling it was exactly the same. The man has pheremones and you can't hold him back *g*

(And now I need to go and read all the Don/Coop fic, geez. There was never enough Unit fic for me, either. Why doesn't all the fic feature this dude? C'mon fandom: MAX MARTINI. As much hoyay as Vin Diesel and Paul Walker combined. And that's saying something :D)

Max Martini

The H50 ep he appears in is Ep 9 of season 1; he plays a Navy SEAL, ex-partner of Steve McGarrett, and it's easily one of the slashiest eps I'd seen on TV to that point. There's a partial clip of the ep here, just the opening scene: http://youtu.be/up5wzpAosDE
