I have a feeling that at some point, people will try to pay me to stop vidding Pacific Rim, but until then, I have so many feeeeels to get out that I can't stop vidding it. This time, I wanted to focus completely on the humans and the jaegers behind them. The other day I was talking with someone who dismissed the movie as some dumb Transformers thing, and I said, well, that's what a lot of people probably saw in it, but let me tell you what I saw in it, and this vid is basically what I told her -- that it's a story about people coming together, caring for each other, in order to save the world, and that all these amazing bonds are forged and there is just so much love: for each other, for humanity. That they are brothers in arms (and yes, I use that to mean women as well as men). There are only a couple shots in the vid that even show kaijus, and even in those the kaiju is mostly a body in the background.

Not gonna lie, I was really surprised at the reaction from people, and how many came up to me afterward to tell me that it gave them feels as well, or made them all weepy. I was pretty pleased with it when I finished it, but I had no hope that it might please others, especially others who don't know the movie or didn't like what they saw. So that was a pretty big bonus. They talked about how this was a vidshow of FEELS during vid review the next day, and yeah, I think that was an accurate description, which this vid definitely played into.

The song was one of those perfect things you luck into once in a very great while, and I knew the first time I heard it that it would embody my feelings about the movie and the big damn heroes who are part of it.

Augh this made me SO EMOTIONAL. The song is perfect, the way that "brother" describes so many different forms of relationships between these people, and the whole mood of the song is so wonderfully hopeful. It makes me happy everytime I watch it because you perfectly captured what I love so much about this movie.
I've had that same conversation with quite a few people who didn't see more in it than ~monsters and robots~, and basically told them exactly what you said because THAT'S WHAT IT IS. <3 Thank you for making this great vid!

Oh, that is some high praise coming from the person who made my favorite PR vid! After the vid show so many people came up to me and told me that they had completely dismissed the movie and had no interest in it, but after King and Lionheart and Brother they were really interested in seeing it -- they'd assumed it had no real human story. A lot of people got really weepy, too.

I love this! I got all teary! You've done a great job of drawing out the emotional core of the movie (and the connections between ALL the workers, scientists, jaeger pilots...even the ones who are in the film for maybe two seconds). Lovely.

Ahhh, that was just tremendous. I loved how you highlighted all different relationships, and how "brother" became such an all encompassing term, from familial to comrade-in-arms, to the humanity at large, banding together against a common threat. The judicious use of fast cuts to the drummy parts was a lot of fun. And wow, that's a great song, and very fitting to the source indeed.

Isn't that a great song? The first time I heard it, I didn't catch all the lyrics because I was getting a massage (!), but what I could hear I knew it was perfect for PR. I was so glad when I bought it that it turned out to still be as perfect as I'd thought. I just have such feels for all the people in this movie. They are all such big damn heroes.

I've got the DVD of Pacific Rim sitting on my TV console, waiting for an uninterrupted stretch of grown-up time to watch it! This vid helps put me in just the right frame of mind. I'm *always* about the relationships. I want the *BOOM* too, but without that connection between the characters, it's a hollow *BOOM*. So I'm delighted to get this intro and I hope to watch the movie v.v. soon!

I think one of the things I loved most about it was that it did a great balancing act between the boom and the people. And the relationships are all so multilayered. I hope you enjoy the movie as much as I did.
