Man, I pushed my Into a Bar fic up to the wire this year. I not only was partway through writing my next chapter of Reverie, but then I got some work in, and so I wasn't able to mentally juggle two different writing projects. This is a sequel to the first one I wrote, which was also Schitt's Creek and The Losers. It was really a hoot thinking of how to get David Rose back with The Losers.

Gosh, two posts in one day, when I normally don't even do two in one month!

In a fit of...madness or desperation for something to write or whatever, I signed up for the [community profile] intoabar challenge, where you pick a character and fandom, and they meet a character from another fandom you've volunteered to write, who's randomly assigned by the mods. I signed up with David Rose from Schitt's Creek, which has been my happy place viewing for a while now (I watched the David and Patrick episodes over and over after Endgame), although I had no idea that I had the Pop! channel and so just missed season 5 but stupid Netflix isn't getting S5 till freaking October, and the Pop app won't let me watch them either. This is a pestiferous vexation, as Moira might say.

But anyways, the hilarious thing is that the person from the crossover fandom I was most afraid of getting is exactly who I got, so David is going to meet up with Roque from The Losers. This will be an incredible challenge--not only is David's voice highly, highly idiosyncratic, but Roque isn't exactly loquacious and when he does talk, he's usually yelling at someone or threatening to kill them. I have a ~vague sort of idea, but haven't been able to piece enough together yet to start writing, but fortunately I do have a killer title, which for me is a huge part of the battle because I can't write without one.

I just finished a book that was a heavy edit, and it's always so stressful because I get the same amount of time to work on it as a light edit, but it ends up with me practically rewriting someone's story. I have to query so much stuff, and make suggestions about rewording or revising a section that the work becomes exhausting, I'm just drained. And no, they don't pay me better. But I could tell immediately that this writer comes from fandom: there were so many little telltale signs, stuff that's common in fanfic but not really in pro fiction. Sometimes it was funny, other times it was as exasperating as when you come across it in fanfic.

Do people who've become obsessed with Good Omens know that there's a Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab category of perfumes for it? (I can hear all the "I hate perfume" stuff now, but I can tell you that a lot of commercial perfumes, the kinds people douse themselves in, are much worse than perfume oils like BPAL sells.) I always feel like people don't know that. Proceeds from them are split between the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund and the Orangutan Foundation. My favorite of the scents was Famine, and I recall liking Mr. Young, War, Hastur, Agnes Nutter, and Sister Mary Loquacious. I think Pollution was good for me, too, although it looks like it's currently out of stock. Anyways, that's your public service announcement for the day.

Yay, we have fandoms in common! This makes me happy, and I will be super excited to get a vid in one of these fandoms we both love. Squee!!! My notes are pretty explanatory in most cases, but here's some information that hopefully you'll find helpful.

I'm super happy you are writing for me! Yay, we have fandoms in common and you love the same people I do -- this is wonderful! Because of that, I'm pretty sure I will be a very happy recipient, just because I will have a gift story in a fandom I love. I'm terrible at giving prompts, I really am, so if you'd really love some actualfax prompts, have the mods ping me and I will do my best!

You might notice a strange similarity to my requests. I have loved all my requested fandoms for a long time, and have even requested them before, but this year I have been so utterly obsessed with Captain America: The Winter Soldier (well, and the first movie, too) that I can't even see anything else, so I've chosen Cap2-adjacent fandoms -- stuff with Sebastian Stan and Chris Evans. SebStan's been ruining my life for years, and now Chris Evans is too. I hate them. I love them. Hate them. Love them. Sister! Daughter! Ahem. Anyway. What this means, dear author, is that for the first time in my life I'm reading crossovery things. So if you want to cross any of these characters over with someone from another adjacent fandom, or someone else, or even write an OC, that's cool, as long as the focus is on the YT character. If you'd like to know what fandoms I'm into, you can see a lot of that in my tags on my journals <LJ handle is gwyn_r), and also in the list of fandoms I've written/vidded on my AO3 account.

General stuff about me: I'm open to angst and romance and humor and slash and het and gen, character studies or long plotty stuff, fluff or darker. This year, I'd kind of prefer not to have anything really grimdark, though, but if that's where your story goes, I'm not the kind of person who'd freak out about it. But I've been battling depression, and so stuff that's going to make me more depressed might not be the healthiest thing. I love first times and falling in love, friendships, relationships between people who are equals. Stuff I don't like includes BDSM/anything particularly kink-oriented, non-con in any way, emotional abuse, any sort of animal harm, kid/baby fic, and all that stuff that's kind of AU-y like wingfic and ABO or other things I try never to know about. I tend to hew pretty closely toward canon. Also, two of my fandoms involve twins this year, and I'm a twin, so I'm kind of sensitive to the way twins are often misrepresented in media--a little homework about twins and what we're really like would go a long way if you end up writing either TJ or Jack with their twins.

I'm going to steal heavily from Dorinda for this part of my likes list:  I love slash if I can get it, but for me slash doesn't automatically equal porn. For me it's about the depth of the bond between the characters, the discovery of a startling and unexpected intimacy. I don't have anything against sex scenes (I love them!), but I prefer if a sex scene has a reason to exist within its story. (And honestly, the same can be said for het for me as well.)

Some of the tropes and approaches I enjoy: right now, I really love hopeful endings, words that camouflage deeper/unspoken meanings, protectiveness, worry, extreme competence (with honest weakness), hurt/comfort, chosen families, partners against the world, nurturing via food/drink/warmth. Don't be afraid of classic frameworks if you like 'em! I mentioned hurt/comfort, but I also won't turn up my nose at Having to Share a Bed, Huddling for Warmth, Pretend Couple, situations where one suffers or sacrifices for the other, rescues, stranded somewhere (idyllic or non-), etc.
