Ruttin' pissed off
Dec. 13th, 2002 10:13 amSo the word is that Firefly has been 86'd. Tim Minear says that there are no more episodes to be filmed, which means, effectively, cancelled. I never use mood icons, but today I have, choosing from among pissed off, infuriated, angry, and enraged. I notice they don't have homicidal (nor did they have suicidal when I was looking for that).
I don't even have words for how depressed I am over this news. Knowing that MDs is going to get chopped if it hasn't already, and probably the other show I really liked that was new this year, Robbery Homicide Division (and Tom Sizemore's antics aren't helping that, for sure); Birds of Prey has already been axed (although I'm praying they'll at least show next week's ep with Mitch Pileggi -- Oh Skinner, wherefore art thou? I miss you so much). I realize I watch too much tv, and being so depressed over shows going away makes me sound like a pathetic loser who lives in her parents' basement and hasn't had a date (well, the latter might be true, but for different reasons than geekdom). Nonetheless, it appears to be who I am -- movie geek, tv geek, music geek. And Firefly, especially, was the first thing in a long time I felt this fannish about.
To quote Penny Priddy: "You're like Jerry Lewis, you give me hope to go on." Now Fox wants to take away my hope. If you're like me and hang on to a sliver of hope that another network will pick up Firefly (har, har, but we can dream), head on over to Firefly Immediate Assistance and send some mail, snail and e, to wherever they might direct us.
I wonder if the day will ever come when the shares and the numbers and the ratings are determined by what real people are actually watching and supporting, rather than a few morons who happened to be home to answer their phones in Butthead, Nebraska, and got to be Nielsen families.
