Top 20 reasons to live
Jan. 31st, 2003 10:06 amLast night I took a quick look at the credits for Miracles, which I raved about here earlier this week. D'oh!! What a doofus I am -- this is David Greenwalt's show, the one he left Angel for. For some reason (and this gets back to how much I think the title of this cool new show is a bad choice because it's so misleading about the type of program it really is) I'd made this mental note in my head that it would be some PAX-y family-safe, boring religious show he was leaving for. I'm glad that whatever lured Greenwalt away from Joss's side (I remembered Joss saying that he'd never made a moment of television without Greenwalt at his side) is such an excellent program. Though probably doomed.
Anyways, also last night I nearly got smashed into by a lunatic cabbie. In a nice little neighborhood street, no less. He must have been looking for an address, because he was hurling his car straight for me at high speed. Scared the shit out of me, and I had to jump the curb up onto the parking strip before he saw me -- thank god no one was parked there. So much for the new suspension system and alignment. When I got home, a friend called and I was still cranky and shaken. I told him it would have been an inconvenient time to die, because I had just-purchased CampFire mints in my bag, and if that wasn't a reason to live, I didn't know what was. He said CampFire mints and Girl Scout mint cookies were the actual reason to live, and then asked me what my top 20 reasons to live were, considering the state of the world as we hurtle towards WWIII and I can hardly get out of bed in the morning because my future feels so bleak, job-wise and I am prone to crying jags and panic attacks over it all.
I still haven't come up with 20, but this is a stab:
1. CampFire mints and mint Girl Scout cookies.
2. The music of the Finn brothers, in any incarnation.
3. Buffy, Spike, and their friends.
4. Pretty cowboys in luv.
5. Seattle in May. I'm training my gaze in that direction, hoping it will be enough to look forward to.
6. Days when Mt. Rainier, the Cascades, and the Olympics (even Mt. Baker) are out the sun shines down on them.
7. The possibility of seeing those last few Firefly episodes.
8. TV shows coming out on DVD, slowly but surely, including La Femme Nikita at last -- the most DVD-worthy show ever.
9. Oysterband and Sarah McLachlan songs for vidding.
10. The chance to see my fannish friends every year at Escapade, and (usually) be warm and feel the sun in February. I'm going to miss Santa Barbara so much.
11. Being able to walk to the beach from my house, and watch a great sunset.
12. Psychotic bitch-kitty Emma, who is also adorable.
13. Stuart Weitzman shoes and MaxMara clothes.
14. Apple Macintosh computers still survive.
15. We'll always have London.
16. My 1,200 BSOs.
17. Iced tea.
18. Peter Jackson's imagination and talent.
19. Books. Books, books, books.
20. The crispy duck at Wild Ginger restaurant.
There. Okay, K? I did come up with 20, even if they're not so great. Your turn now, buster!
