So, even though the "post both stories at the same time" people won the vote in my poll yesterday, by a mile, it looks like the "I prefer to wait" folks win the day. I sent myself the file from work yesterday, and the damn thing didn't arrive for over five hours, until just before I shut down for the night. Since it needs polishing and beta-ing, I figured I'd just go ahead and post the WIP chapter. Plus, LJ is making me crazy because it's suddenly, in the past few weeks, decided to bounce me out of the update window every time I make any slight edit to the entry as I'm creating it. I hate how optimized for the Windows world this stupid thing is, and I don't understand why it won't stop doing this.

Of course, the bad thing is that those people who feel sorry for me and leave story comments here may have to do it twice. ;-)

So, here's Measure of a Man chapter 3 . It takes Spike down to Angel-land, where he gets to meet up with most of the gang, and hey, there's even hints of a slashy past. I guess my old slasher personality is rearing its ugly head. Or something. I've played a little with the timeline of the beginning of Angel season 4, but hey, that's what fic writers get to do, right?

I loved it, of course. I want to give real intelligent and articulate feedback, but it’s kinda late and my brain is fried, so you’ll have to bear with me. ;-)

I found the relationship between Wesley and Angel to be spot-on and kind of touching. Such events to overcome, and it was great to see Angel really making an effort to try to put the past behind him in that regard. It’s a nice contrast to his relationship with Spike. Speaking of which, I squeee at the references to the Spike/Angel past – and at Fred’s complete ignorance. Also loved the biting, and the reactions. Mmmm…biting.

And the poignant exchange of the week award has to go to the “easy to fall in love with/difficult to be in love with” conversation. I think that sums up relationships with Buffy nicely, and it’s very in character for Spike to be so frank and true when it comes to home truths her. He loves her, but he ain’t blind.

This story rocks muchly :).

::sits back and waits not-so-patiently for the next chapter and the post-Chosen fic::

Hey, you may think it's not that great, but believe me, this is lengthy and detailed for me, so I'm all squee-y. ;-)

I really am hoping that I can get over the hurdle right now for chapter 4. For some reason, I am just completely stalled on it -- I know exactly what happens, I know where it goes, but I cannot seem to get it written down. I don't know what's wrong with me.

Must be summer malaise -- up here it's in the 90s Fahrenheit, and it's almost never in the 90s. My brain is parboiled.

Continuing to enjoy this series, I have to say. Not sure if I've said before or not, so I figured I'd better say now ;-).

Thank you, Shell! I'm glad -- I'm having trouble with the next chapter so I'm glad that people are interested in more, maybe it will motivate me to keep going and get over this hurdle.

This is so well written - I particularly loved your line:

I'm only here until he wakes up," Wes demurred, gazing sidelong at Angel with what Lorne thought was marked tension. Oh, for Marthbungle's sake, he wished the two of them would just kiss and make up.

YAY for the slash! Yay for the good writing! YAY for HumanSpike! I guess that's not a very articulate critique but I'm not good at that aspect. I'm only good at reading, appreciating and letting the writer know how good she is.

Thank you, Nancy! And yeah, I like playing with the tension between Wes and Angel, as I think it's kind of cute and way more fun than the show ever let it be -- I mean, seriously, the UST is sky high at times. ;-)
