Meta slash

For some reason, Bravo didn't air Keen Eddie last week, but they've started showing the ads for this week's episode, one of the unaired eps. I feel a great vindication: the asshats who commented that my vid at Escapade wasn't slashy enough, and that it wasn't a "correct" fandom to pimp at a slash con? Hah! Even the Bravo advertising folks know that the real romance in this show is between Eddie and Monty. The ad offers the usual quick clips from the rest of the main story, and then the announcer intones, "and the romance you've all been waiting for." A quick shot of Fiona. Music swells, and we get Monty staring up at Eddie, saying, "I think I'm attracted to you." Sound of record needle being pulled off abruptly. Eddie fixes him with an annoyed stare, and says "Shut. Up."

I'm telling you, the slash on this show is at meta level. The characters themselves know about it and comment on it. Right before the con, we had an episode where Monty was pissed at Eddie and wouldn't talk to him. At one point in the car, Eddie says, "Come on, give us a kiss." Monty turns away, but Eddie says, "Kiss?" Then a few weeks later came another totally new episode (one of the unaired six), and in frustration with strange things happening in his life, Eddie says, "Maybe we should just move in together." Monty leaps up and asks eagerly, "Really?" and Eddie, realizing what he's said, answers, "No!" to which Monty responds by sitting down and looking crushed.

I don't know how a show where two male characters are often sleeping on each other and having conversations like this could possibly not be considered slashy enough. I guess it's just that it doesn't have 12-year-old pretty boys. But I'll take Monty and Eddie over the rest of them any day. Wednesday at 10 now, on Bravo -- it's the slashiest!

Eeeee! I haven't seen that! Maybe tonight, during QE? *pleasepleaseplease*

I agree, absolutely. I really think you were right when you said it's more to do with KE not being the "correct" fandom, because the slash couldn't possibly be more obvious. Plus, it's just a great show. It's funny, though, I know a vidder who can't watch it because of the camera work/editing, which is exactly why I was a fan from the moment the pilot started. *shakes head* Different strokes, I guess.

I'm sure they'll run it during QE tonight -- I mean, it's so gay!

I think the camera stuff really settled down in the later episodes, but unfortunately, they show them out of order, so... we still haven't seen Horse Heir, and that would drive her crazy, probably. ;-)

I was wondering where the slashfic was right after watching the premiere. I mean.

I know!

I guess if they were both younger and prettier... maybe there'd be this huge explosion of slashfic. Sigh. At least we're lucky enough for them to do it on the show. ;-)

Dammit. I can't find the series online to download! I want to see this. (I have ever having seen your vid -- talk about pimping! Eeee.)

Oh, man, I'm surprised someone isn't putting these up... that's kinda depressing, in a way. It's not cool enough or seen enough for people to pirate online. Crap. I mean, I know it had a short life on broadcast, and all, but still... this just isn't right!

::sighs::

actually, i prefer slashing eddie with the police captain & his natty savile row suits, but hey. (& mark valley was my favorite jack devereaux...if i tell the truth about my TV-viewing history.)

your icon made me laugh out loud though. gay pants is right. everyone knows that monty was at that party looking to pick up a piece of coattail rather than skirt anyway.

OMG -- he played Jack Devereaux? Get out! I had long since stopped watching Days after Jack and... the blonde... got married, but when I tuned in recently (in my new life of an unemployed woman of leisure), he'd been offed by the serial killer, so I had no idea any other actors had even taken on the role.

I think one of the cooler things about the show is that there are two possible pairings -- or more, depending on how you move the characters around. I'm definitely into these two together, but I've had a thing for many years about Colin Salmon, so... Nathaniel rings my chimes.

I didn't even realize until I saw owlrigh's post above that it wasn't even being pirated online! I mean, somehow that makes me feel kind of sad, that it isn't even popular enough to get downloaded. Wah. The worst part was that it started on broadcast, but Fox cancelled it after six eps. ::hates Fox::

KE slash

I'm not sure if you saw this the first time or not, but the actors certainly saw the slash. From this (http://tv.zap2it.com/tveditorial/tve_main/1,1002,274|81746|1|,00.html) article...

In the meantime, Eddie and Pippin also are finding a way to relate. "You got to admit," Valley says, "whenever two guys have to spend an awful lot of time together, the question is going to come up. There's always that thing of, 'Oh my God, are we gay?' Like, not physically, but you're enjoying each other's company -- you know what I mean?"

"It could be read that way, and we joke about it, but they're just two regular guys hanging out, spending an awful lot of time together."

Mwah ha ha ha! I love it! I hadn't seen this, so thank you for the link. I just love it when the actors are in on the whole thing. God, it's such a long way from the days when everyone freaked out about the tiniest implication.

Not slashy enough. Ha! They'll see. And they'll be saying before long that your vid was ahead of its time. If I had some time, I'd be writing some Eddie/Monty, really I would.

If you write it, I will read it! Very, very happily. I wish I could settle down a iittle emotionally and mentally, so that I could write some stuff, too. But I have a feeling it's a long way away. But London's calling!
