Would anyone be able to beta a Justified vid sometime in the next few days, depending on when I finish the first draft? I'm trying to finish this weekend, since the upcoming week is going to be pretty crazy busy, possibly the next few weeks, so I have a shorter turnaround than I usually ask. Ideally it would be someone who knows the show (this wouldn't be a good vid for someone without knowledge of the series) and knows my vidding style (not that I have a style, but I guess my general approach or something). I'm not looking for a super in-depth piece by piece dissection, but more of a second opinion about whether it's worth keeping or scrapping.

The rescue group contacted me about a corgi whose family had to give her up because of a back injury and she can no longer navigate their three-floor house. It's a foster to adopt situation. A full corgi is a bit more than I expected (since they are basically normal-sized dogs on short legs) size-wise, but I guess I will meet her this week and see. I'm kind of nervous. She needs a long period of crate rest, though, so she won't be active, but at least she has lived with kitties before, so that's good. I'm not going to get my hopes up, though.

I had a lovely dinner last night with [personal profile] killabeez and [personal profile] jarrow to celebrate [personal profile] trelkez's birthday, and had a chestnut puree panna cotta for dessert that was the nearest thing to heaven I think is on earth. It was divine. It's not a restaurant I'll ever have much opportunity to go to, and I am now sad, because I know that it is on the dessert list there, waiting to be eaten again.

I've never beta'd a vid before, but I'd be willing to try. And, y'know, Raylan. Yeah, that's a hardship.

Corgis are lovely dogs, I think. If I hadn't found Hagrid, that was the other breed at the top of my list. Herding dogs tend to be wonderfully intelligent and trainable (unlike Scotties, who are known for their stubborn and independent natures; which I suppose is why I get along so well with Hagrid...), and corgis, at least, don't need to have a "job" the same way something like a border collie does.
Uh, I will talk about dogs forever, so I'll quit before this gets out of control.

I'm really intimidated by the size of her -- they said 31 pounds, and having to lift her outside to go potty till her back heals is scaring me quite a lot. I'm too old and infirm to be doing that... but I don't want to turn her away, either. I didn't realize Hagrid was a Scottie -- oh man, I loooove Scotties. I'm also nervous about how much i don't know about having a PET dog -- I was surrounded by dogs my whole childhood, but they were hunting dogs, working dogs, and having one that's an indoor dog at heart, that doesn't work for something, is kind of a mystery to me. I hope I can do all right by her.

Let me know your email address for the vid.

Hmmmm...I guess a lot of it depends on how far you have to carry her. If you're not confident about it, can you meet her and try carrying her the required distance to see if it's workable? You don't want to end up hurting yourself, after all. Although dog-weight generally isn't as bad as dead-weight; I schlep 24 pounds of furball about 30 feet almost every night (so, so spoiled) and I find it quite a bit easier than carrying the occasional 16-pound bag of dry food in from the car.

If she's anything like Max, our old some-kind-of-sheepdog, she'll probably appoint herself to a job or two around the place. Hagrid splits his time between indoors and out, depending on the weather, and he's always taken his self-imposed yard security duties very seriously--especially now with the damn squirrels invading! That terrier instinct kicks in and he goes from still to flying unbelievably fast for something with such short legs...

Email is mackeymesser at gmail dot com. Do you want to let me know what you think needs to be looked at, or shall I go in blind and give an overall impression?
