Dude, I just got to copyedit a piece with entries from Daniel Handler (Lemony Snicket) and Neil LaBute and Jane Smiley. Daniel Handler was very messy. Good thing he's not all Ann Rice about being edited, I think. LaBute OTOH is clean and funny. Heeee.

And [livejournal.com profile] feochadn, if you haven't disappeared, one of the guys who wrote an entry about what he thought was the most interesting cultural event of the year wrote about the 20th anniversary of Miami Vice! Someone who gets how much that show changed the cultural landscape!

I'm not at all surprised that Handler "was very messy". Heh. And yay for a non Anne Rice reaction when it comes to editing!

Now that's good to hear.

Love the icon, btw :-) That's very sexy.

Miami Vice

I remember how exciting Miami Vice was. My friends and I could hardly wait for Friday night at 9 PM when that pulsing music and cool color scheme would take over our TV sets. That show was so very influential - the clothes, the music, the moody guys. It even made Edward James Olmos look sexy - the guy has got to have the worst skin and teeth in Hollywood but his Crockett was a dark icon that captured my heart for several years. I wonder what's happened to the actors on the show; I read that Don Johnson is having financial problems and the other actors seems to have disappeared. Olmos is still around but nowhere near what he was in the heydey of MV. What an amazing show - although I wonder what I would think of the way women were treated. As I remember, the two women detectives dressed like hookers. I think it did bother me at the time but I was too busy drooling over Sonny and Crockett to care very much.
I was so shallow. (Was? ) ...
