Vidding is the strangest thing -- we get so excited about... like, 12 seconds. We will email all our friends and say, I have 12 more seconds on the vid! And we all go yay like it's the biggest thing ever. I think 10 seconds of vid time is equivalent to writing about 1,800 words of fiction.

So I'm all excited that [livejournal.com profile] feochadn and I finally -- finally! -- got to work on our Deadwood vid after a million missed starts, and we have a minute and 11 seconds. W00t. I mean, in what universe is a minute -- we're up to the first chorus -- a w00t? It is in vidding. I love what we have here. But sometimes I worry about us. I worry that Jo and I love violence and see beauty in film violence just a little too much. I mean, we're poring over clips, looking for something bloody or brutal.

Sample conversation:
me: Oh, this is a great clip -- doesn't get much more brutal than that!
jo: Eh... not enough movement. Or, maybe more blood.
me: This one's really nice and gruesome.

I think people are going to look at this vid and either go, What the *fuck*?, or they're going to think it's cool. And maybe give us business cards for their therapist.

Congrats!

And as for busy minutes just consider the first minute or so of the Big Bang http://ssscott.tripod.com/BigBang.html and all will fall into perspective

I *so* hear you re: 12 seconds. My GOD! 12 seconds? That's 1/6 of my Carnivale vid! That's FOREVER in vid years!

And ooooo Deadwood. *is v.v. excited*

One-sixth of your vid! That's amazing when you think of it. I loved that vid. I know I only got a quick chance to tell you at the con, but it was every bit as creepy as I hoped it would be.I especially love the baby jesus turning its head on that vocal note, which just gives me heebie-jeebies.

The baby Jesus was totally the first clip I laid. I *knew* what that would be on that note. ;)

I suspect the Deadwood-watching audience has a pretty high tolerance for violence. :) (And: yay, vid!)

Yes, thank god -- but I still have a feeling that some of the folks who are familiar with our collaboration efforts are going to think "those girls are just not right." ;-)

Isn't it fun to vid by computer? If there isn't enough blood, you can always add more.

Or make it redder.

YAY! Violence!

YAY for a minute of Deadwood vid from you guys!

me: Oh, this is a great clip -- doesn't get much more brutal than that!
jo: Eh... not enough movement. Or, maybe more blood.
me: This one's really nice and gruesome.

This is very nearly word for word the exchange that happened over and over between Kim and me when we were working on Closer. *g* Except I think she used the word "nasty" instead of "gruesome."

LOL! Nasty is nice, too -- there were definitely some clips I grabbed for this vid that just nasty... and Deadwood gives it to us in spades.

I so can't freaking wait to see that vid.

Did you watch Invasion tonight? There was waaaaay more Fichtner than the ads let on. And top billing, too! I was so happy.

I'm just now watching it on TiVo -- brought the laptop out to the living room to work since I couldn't stand waiting, and I had class last night so didn't get home till almost 11. Fichtner is v. v. creepy!

I was just thinking the other day that with all the supernatural shows coming out on network tv now, I'd like to see someone with some REAL TALENT resurrect The Twilight Zone. I mean, Rod Serling was effing brilliant, and the new writer(s) better be as good if not better, especially since Americans aren't so easily scared these days. Stephen King will not suffice.

That said, I think Fichtner could star in every episode and still creep the shit out of me.

Glad your TiVo didn't fail you. *G*

HEE. The twelve seconds thing, yes, that really strikes a chord. I even get excited when I have a minute and a half of vid, and I had a minute and a half three weeks earlier as well, but now there are different clips. I want to throw it up for people to look at and go, 'Look! All new clips!' and then realize I might get hurt, so I don't. But yes.

Happy vidding! (PS: I need to send you feedback soon on 'Atom Bomb'. That was a hella cool vid, so full of energy and fantastic motion. Must watch again, right now all I'm seeing is that great shot of la femme Nikita jumpdiving through a window, followed by flames.)

I know what you mean about not wanting to set yourself up for hurt...a part of me always wants to show what I have in progress to people, but then I get scared and back down -- it's so hard sometimes when you're working by yourself to know if something's good or bad.

Thanks for commenting on Atom Bomb! I waited through vid after vid for a chance to use that diving out the window of a high-rise shot. It never worked anywhere else but there, so I was thrilled even though it only lasts for about 12 frames.

Oh, I dunno, I think your taste is in keeping with the current zeitgeist. (: It's my wincing away from violence that's abnormal these days.

I'm so glad you're vidding and enjoying yourselves. A minute is a w00t in any sensible universe!
