A day I never thought I would see happen: My Magnificent Seven first season DVDs are right here in my cold little hands. Mag 7. DVDs. I never thought they would ever, ever release these. I don't even care that it's likely to be shabby treatment (double sided discs, no extras, nothing). I don't even care that it's clear the worst graphic designers in the world work for MGM (wait till you see the slipcase design: Vin's head looks like it's sprouting out of Chris's shoulder; gold type on a gold and white background, squeezed into a fakey condense so you can't read it; Buck looks like he's resting his head on JD's shoulder -- though I imagine that last one will make klia very happy!).

Why oh why isn't work over yet?

You can bet your saddle blanket I'll do a review of the set when I can.

So far it's kind of ineteresting. They aren't double sided discs, as had been reported. But they're obviously dual density and I think the image quality seriously suffers for anyone watching these on a computer screen or a hi-def/plasma type TV. For standard old interlaced TVs, I'm sure it looks good.

But the the horrible grain aside, the colors are stupendous, and things that have been lost in shadow, details that were lost due to interior darkness, all show up here. The natural light they filmed in looks more like a nice amber glow as opposed to the super dark murk we couldn't see into before. And you can see how blue Eric's eyes are and how green Michael Biehn's are.

I'm thrilled that devoted M7 fen like yourself will finally have a chance to watch the show again. And I hear that Wild, Wild West will be coming to DVD soon and perhaps Man From UNCLE, too!

I felt the same glee when due South was finally released on DVD for Region 1. Despite the crappy packaging, no extras, and less than stellar picture quality, I still feel that frission of happiness run up my spine each time I watch an episode.

I dragged my friends all over Vancouver looking for someplace that carried those damn DS DVDs when they first came out. There was only one store, that had one copy (and this time I couldn't find a Canadian movie in any store, as if they carry no Canadian movies in Canada), and it cost a fortune, but by god, I was going to have them! Then of course they released them again recently for cheaper. Sigh.

Ah, but the AA version has better picture quality than the Platinum release, which lacks even the French language option. And the Platinum marketing and design folks are a match for MGM regarding poor work on the DVD boxes. You should hear the screams of CKR fans when they see David Marciano on the cover of Season 3 *sympathetic wince*.

I swear, the last time I looked for M7 dvds they weren't even on offer, and it wasn't that long ago.

Yeah, Deep Discount DVD was the only place I saw them for a long, long time. Amazon didn't even have the presale info until just recently.

I got them from Amazon. I got a gift certificate for my b-day so the cost of the discs was paid for mostly by the GC! They are not expensive at all (which is good, because for that low a quality production, MGM would be tarred and feathered).

They are also at Deep Discount DVD. In fact, Amazon didn't even have info about them until just before sales. DDD at least had the info in presale from back when they were announced early this fall.
