Last night as I was driving home from watching Deadwood (still only halfway through this season, but OMG, it's just killing me! In a good way!) with [livejournal.com profile] movies_michelle, [livejournal.com profile] mlyn, and [livejournal.com profile] feochadn, there was a huge accident scene that they were carefully routing people around. There aren't a lot of places to cross on Hwy. 99 (aka Aurora) in Seattle, and people frequently run across the road, right in front of you, to cross a highway that's just barely under freeway speeds. Someone had been killed, and just as I got there, they put the yellow tarp over the body. I don't really know why, but that shook me up a lot. It's not that I haven't seen a lot of dead bodies, especially of people I love, but I suppose it's the act of covering this just-killed person, knowing that this scene you're looking at has resulted in someone's death, that's kind of terrible to see.

They mentioned it on the news last night, but none of the web sites for the papers or the broadcasts have seen fit to mention it today. I guess it just happens too much there. I can't even count how many times someone has walked right in front of me, travelling at high speeds, on that highway, even at intersections where there are walk lights. I can't imagine what the person who hit him must be going through.

It would have really shaken me up to have seen that, too.
