I wasn't sure I'd be able to get my Escapade vid up any time soon after the con, so I figured I'd go ahead and post it now. I think it's prolly gonna bomb anyway, so at least I get the worst part of the experience out of the way first. It's for the movie Big Eden, and something I've wanted to make for years now, but never seemed to get to it.

I have a sparkling large copy for DL at my vids site, and have put it up at my Imeem page as well, even though it kinda stutters a lot on the long pans and zooms the movie uses.

Like most of your vids, it makes me fall in love with the source material without ever having seen it. I was moved.

Oh man, I liked this one a lot. Minute I saw the same guy as your lj icon, I was pretty sure I was a goner.
You have some rally great fandoms I love, but I do love your vids.
Thanks!

Yeah, he's a hottie, isn't he? Sigh. I just love that movie to death, and I have no idea why it took me so long to make the vid, and I'm so glad people are getting into it!

I have nothing critical or insightful to say only that it was lovely and I liked it very much.

Thank you! It's such a simple vid, very old-fashioned, so honestly, there isn't much to talk about -- I think it's one of those "just a little story" vids, if you know what I mean.

I've never seen this movie, but it's now at the top of my Netflix queue. This was gorgeous, and completely captivated me.

Oh, wow, that's so pretty! I love that movie, and this is perfect for the tone of it. I will admit to sometimes having trouble getting into long and slow vids, but this was just right!

I'm downloading now, and am already sure I'll love it, as I do most of your vids - hope it gets a positive response at Escapade!

(still haven't seen the movie, but it's on my "to watch" list)

I hope you did end up liking it. And thank you so much, btw, for the postcard. I got it when I came home from the con and it cheered me up a lot, especially wth all the things going on with le puss.

I really did enjoy it - loved the slower pace, and felt that provided viewers to really get a feel for the guys. I still haven't seen the movie, but this reaffirmed my desire to do so soon.

glad the card was cheering - and hope the puss continues to hold her own

Awww, thank you so much! I figure if I can pimp even just a couple people into seeing the movie, I've done my job. I never used to be a big happy endings fan, but lately, it seems like the thing I want to do.

I had actually never seen Big Eden before watching this vid but the next day I got it out of the library and MY WORD but I loved it. So just starting off with the thanks for introducing me to this awesome movie :)

What really hooked me on my first viewing of the vid was Pike and how beautifully his silence and fear were illustrated both by the song and your clip selection. And how he uses food to communicate love, thereby making him my favorite character ever. Yet while I was completely fascinated by Pike, the narrative never lost track of Henry's POV and his own trials and struggle to connect. And their twu wuv ;)

Favorite moments:
1:06 - Pike's expressions on the first chorus really palpably set up his struggle for the rest of the vid.
1:35 - Motion of Henry sitting and Pike moving away from him works really well with the music.
3:15 - I just love this shot.
3:38 - Nice little Pike moment.
3:58 - This moment is just so sweet. Words fail Pike but hugs don't!
4:22 - I like this Henry clip a lot, really draws you into his head.
4:36 - I love the cross dissolve from them leaning into kiss to the painting, perfect ending moment.

Anyway, I really enjoyed this, joyful and sweet. Thanks for posting!

Oh, thank you, that is so kind of you to give it a shot and to watch the movie, too -- this is the thing I was hoping for the most, in a lot of ways. It didn't play a lot of cities and so getting more people to take the chance and watch it is really cool.

I am so glad you enjoyed it, and it's lovely to get such a detailed note. Makes a vidder's day, let me tell you!

(And can I just say how much I like your LJ handle? ;-) )

I love Big Eden (I keep giving copies away to people, legal, paid up copies at that *g*), and I was just charmed and delighted by this at Escapade. You've said upthread that it's old fashioned as vids go, but the story is old fashioned, a gorgeous ramble through romance, and the vid just encapsulated everything I loved about the film. Thank you so much.

Thank you so much! I am so glad people are enjoying it -- the movie is just so dear to my heart in so many different ways that I am really touched that it's connecting with people as it is.

Wow, wow, and *wow*

Yes, I suck because it took me a gazillion years to watch this properly, but I'll try to compensate for the suckage by lavishing praise on you for making this vid. It's simply wonderful and perfect! The mood and sound of the song match the movie and the characters -- there's that sense of space and silence that comes through in the movie so strongly, and it's amazing that you found a song that communicates that so well. Hurray for excellent song choice!

And hurray for excellent clip choice and your meticulous care in selecting the right moments and movements for each clip. I can't even express how impressed and excited I was by your editing: it blew my socks off. I can single out what I think was such a brilliant, marvellous choice: when you use Pike turning away or standing up or walking away -- so, so, so effective. And it makes such a strong statement in this vid, where it's the little motions or the fraught moments that are captured. This worked so wonderfully to convey Pike's confusion and longing. It's beautiful!

A beautiful, beautiful vid, so perfect for this movie! It made me sniffle and smile and then sit there in awe and immediately play it over again. Thank you for making this and sharing it, because it's a gorgeous gift.

Well, thank you so, so much. I owe everything to you -- if you had not posted about it that one day, and not mentioned Eric Schweig, I might never have noticed it in time, and would never have discovered something that has brought me great joy for so long. The best thing is being able to share that with people who never had someone to tell them about this wonderful movie.

Add me to the list of people who have never seen this movie but now really wants to because of the vid. The whole thing has a very gentle feel, and I found it remarkably easy to follow along with the narrative even without knowledge of the source. I also felt for these guys and was really happy to see them together at the end there.

Oh.

This is just incredibly gorgeous. It's such a fantastic, perfect song choice for the film -- I've thought about wanting to make a Big Eden vid (and now I don't have to!) but couldn't find the right song. You did. Even the slow, measured and sort of peaceful mood of the song fits with the general mood of the movie.

I wish I knew how to leave proper feedback for vids; I always feel like an amateur talking about visual art like this. But it's just gorgeous.

If I wanted to rec it on my LJ, would you prefer me to link to this post, or to the main vid page (http://www.gwynethr.net/)?

And btw, I love your icon!
