Posting my vid early
Feb. 17th, 2007 09:50 pmI wasn't sure I'd be able to get my Escapade vid up any time soon after the con, so I figured I'd go ahead and post it now. I think it's prolly gonna bomb anyway, so at least I get the worst part of the experience out of the way first. It's for the movie Big Eden, and something I've wanted to make for years now, but never seemed to get to it.
I have a sparkling large copy for DL at my vids site, and have put it up at my Imeem page as well, even though it kinda stutters a lot on the long pans and zooms the movie uses.

Some things are just too hard to say.

Feedback of any kind would be gratefully received. (And yes, it's long and slow.) Many thanks to
destina and
mlyn for their beta help.

Date: 2007-03-03 06:09 am (UTC)What really hooked me on my first viewing of the vid was Pike and how beautifully his silence and fear were illustrated both by the song and your clip selection. And how he uses food to communicate love, thereby making him my favorite character ever. Yet while I was completely fascinated by Pike, the narrative never lost track of Henry's POV and his own trials and struggle to connect. And their twu wuv ;)
Favorite moments:
1:06 - Pike's expressions on the first chorus really palpably set up his struggle for the rest of the vid.
1:35 - Motion of Henry sitting and Pike moving away from him works really well with the music.
3:15 - I just love this shot.
3:38 - Nice little Pike moment.
3:58 - This moment is just so sweet. Words fail Pike but hugs don't!
4:22 - I like this Henry clip a lot, really draws you into his head.
4:36 - I love the cross dissolve from them leaning into kiss to the painting, perfect ending moment.
Anyway, I really enjoyed this, joyful and sweet. Thanks for posting!

Date: 2007-03-07 06:11 pm (UTC)And hurray for excellent clip choice and your meticulous care in selecting the right moments and movements for each clip. I can't even express how impressed and excited I was by your editing: it blew my socks off. I can single out what I think was such a brilliant, marvellous choice: when you use Pike turning away or standing up or walking away -- so, so, so effective. And it makes such a strong statement in this vid, where it's the little motions or the fraught moments that are captured. This worked so wonderfully to convey Pike's confusion and longing. It's beautiful!
A beautiful, beautiful vid, so perfect for this movie! It made me sniffle and smile and then sit there in awe and immediately play it over again. Thank you for making this and sharing it, because it's a gorgeous gift.

Date: 2007-04-27 11:51 pm (UTC)This is just incredibly gorgeous. It's such a fantastic, perfect song choice for the film -- I've thought about wanting to make a Big Eden vid (and now I don't have to!) but couldn't find the right song. You did. Even the slow, measured and sort of peaceful mood of the song fits with the general mood of the movie.
I wish I knew how to leave proper feedback for vids; I always feel like an amateur talking about visual art like this. But it's just gorgeous.
If I wanted to rec it on my LJ, would you prefer me to link to this post, or to the main vid page (http://www.gwynethr.net/)?
