The weather outside is frightful
Dec. 21st, 2008 07:23 pmA day I never thought I'd see: I have over one foot of snow in my yard. There's even more on my front porch due to the windstorm last night blowing piles of it up in drifts against my front door. I can't open the front door because it will pour snow in on my hardwood floors. It's not as bad in the back, because the snow won't run the tile. But it's quite a pileup out there, as well. Even in the big blizzard of '90, we didn't have over a foot of snow. This is just freaking amazing. But I am done with it.
We had to cut short a bash yesterday at
feochadn's place because of the snow. I had quite a hairy drive home in a couple of spots, but overall, the German engineering performed fairly well. The kitties are stir crazy and this makes Blues behave even worse than normal, which is pretty bad lately. Olive actually went outside in horrid cold and wind and icy snow last night for hours, to the point where I was panicky and getting bundled up to go look for her, but then she finally came in. As my dad says, "She's her own little kitty." I have never met a cat so insane she would go out in subzero temps and flying icy snow, but Ollie is that cat. When it's not coming down, Blues has discovered it can be fun to play in, although he didn't like it today -- the ice crust on the snow makes it hard for him. He's awfully cute in it, though. I took some pics and movies that I will try to post at some point.
I didn't snag a Yuletide pinch hit, but I did see one come through that sounded like I could do it pretty easily. So I spent much of the day writing a story. I can't imagine how disappointing it must be to see your name on the pinch hit list like that (I was actually really afraid of that happening), and this person seemed really nice and had a lot of the same interests and feelings as I did, so I figured it would be worth it and might make their day a little happier. I have go back over it with a fine-tooth comb tomorrow, but hopefully I won't look at it and scream, "It sucks," and give up.
Someone started a Christmas fairy give-away thing on one of the BPAL communities I am on, so I played and gave away a decant of Storyville, one of the most sought-after rarest scents in the fandom. It was kind of fun. A lot of people tried for it, and I ended up having interesting conversations with people. If I could ever find someone who'd be willing to swap a decant of that for a decant of Fee, that would be the best Xmas ever, but I doubt I will. Still, it kind of made being willing to spend so much money on the bottle last year worth it -- I love giving things to people, and this was one of those things you could really feel happy to give. Not a lot of people get to try it.
And now I think I'm going to cuddle up on the couch and watch Tropic Thunder. I'm very restless from being cooped up so much lately, but it's still coming down like gangbusters out there, and it's not like I can open the door anyway!

Date: 2008-12-22 03:41 am (UTC)I'm so glad you were okay driving home in the snow! We've got a ton of snow at the moment too, but it's a lot more normal for us than for you, I think...
