I am having some serious downerness lately, things that are almost too big for me to deal with and I don't really want to talk about. They're just depressing as hell. But there are a couple things that really help me get through it: friends and kitties. In the past couple days I've been able to Skype convo with [livejournal.com profile] morgandawn, go shopping with [livejournal.com profile] mlyn, get some really serious vidding help from [livejournal.com profile] killabeez and plan a get together so she can pimp me Primeval (yay!), talk at length with Katharine about the Escapade vidshow this year and get things hammered out a bit, and help [livejournal.com profile] kassrachel with exporting her vid (marvel at that for a moment, those of you who've spent so many hours helping me with my complete technical inabilities).

And the kitties, while still being terrible about getting along, have been beyond adorable the past few days, I don't know why, but maybe they just know I need extra cuteness doses. I gave them the last of the liver from [livejournal.com profile] feochadn's big liver fry-out last week on our midweek tv viewing night, and it was just such a pleasure watching them dive in and gobble it up, and I swear they were smiling.

But then I go back to thinking about all the stuff weighing me down. So, help me out -- tell me something that's helping you get through the days. I have my tax appt. on Wed night, and that's going to be even more depressing, so the more "things that make you happy" notes, the better.

xkcd.com makes me happy
and jonathan coulton
and paul and storm -- it's all kinds of silliness

saw the dvd to dr. horrible's sing along blog, and that made me super happy -- especially commentary! the musical.

the tv making me happy: life, chuck, eli stone, the tudors, and dr. who (also -- don't tell anyone -- 90210, which is horrible, but fun)

hooking up with old friends on facebook

hanging out with my kids, who are much more fun to be around and much less work than they used to be

Ya know what would make me happy (ier)? If we could get together sometime in the near future. I haven't seen you in yonks, and I realize now that I said I'd help you move over labor day weekend and I never showed up. I never freaking showed up. I totally forgot. I'm such a loser. I really need to get my shit together.

We should watch Chuck together or something sometime. I just got the first disc of the 2nd Tudors season and it was great fun. More discs to come! I'm thinking of possible even keeping Showtime, though I know I shouldn't, just so I can see the 3rd season without having to wait a year for the dvds.

I've been having a rough time (in smaller ways than many of poor flist have been) and friends at work were saying, "Hang in there. It'll get better." And it does.
It may take longer than I was ready for, but sometimes it's a matter of gritting my teeth and keeping a lid on it no matter what, and other times it's just cut loose with the waterworks if you just can't stand it any more.

{{hugs you}} Sometimes I think the Internets help us all keep it together, when we can talk to each other and talk each other through things.

I so believe animals do this!

I do an altered version of Lamaze breathing. Didn't help with births that much, but has come in handy since then. At work I have a few postit notes around my desk that say ZEN in caps to remind me to breathe.

Do take care!!

This morning, Olive came into bed with me and plunked her big fat butt down in my face and curled up and purred. It was a tad difficult to breathe with this giant furry haunch in my nose, but I think she figured I needed an extra special dose of contact. She doesn't really like contact except on her terms, so I'm assuming this comes from someplace else.

You helping me with this vid is making me happy! As is the plain fact that I am vidding in the first place. (Which was about as unlikely as you offering tech support, except then it turned out to be very likely after all. :-) In a bigger-picture sense, there's this whole thing about having awesome friends, and the culture of generosity, and the fact that people make vids and share them in the first place -- I am all awash with new-vidder love right now.

Also: new LOST tonight! ::happy dance of new canon::

your cats probably *do* know you need extra cuddles just now; companion animals can sense our moods, and they love you lots, so cuddles ensue

things what make me happy:

the Obama Administration
sunshine (when it deigns to appear)
sillyfun TV shows (like Leverage)
smart people, such as I find on LJ
good coffee (and bacon, can't forget the bacon!)

CUPCAKES!! Oh wow, and bacon. Yeah, definitely bacon. I will never be a successful vegetarian because of pork-based products. Especially bacon.

This icon makes me happy.

Realizing that I don't WANT to work here, and letting go. (Handy, that.)

Finishing a knitting project and having it not be sucky.

Good coffee, green tea, good iced tea, bubbly white wine.

Kitty kisses.

Hearing our president speak, and the feeling that this person may not be the god some hoped for, but he's intelligent and thoughtful, and he has a plan.

Burn Notice.

WholeSoy ice cream. Especially the caramel-ly one.

Tiny leaves on the fuchsia I brought inside after it snowed and froze.

Good iced tea is one of the great joys in life. I've been watching True Blood lately, and every time someone orders sweet tea at the restaurant, I whimper.

Yay Burn Notice! I need some icons, I think.

My sweet birdies.
Watching the birds and squirrels in my backyard.
A comforting pot of hot tea on a cold day.
Shows like Burn Notice and Leverage, where super-competent men and women give scumbags their due.
Avoiding the news, if at all possible.
Kindred spirits.

I went birding with Alex a while ago (it's hard, because birders seem to be morning people for the best sightings, and I'm NOT a morning person) and it was really cool and fun. I'm thinking that one of these nights, I should stay up all night and go out with her at the crack o dawn to see more. Cold, though. Really really cold.

That's cool! I know what you mean: I was forever getting up at the crack of dawn, freezing my ass off and helping L hump his video gear in the field, but now? Really not a morning person anymore, and cold temps are a big problem for me. The good thing is, birds are most active at sunrise and sunset, so late afternoon is an option, too.

The big reason I love my little yard is the variety of birds (including some pretty uncommon ones) that I get to see fairly close-up. And both grey and black squirrels, too.
