Date: 2020-02-27 02:50 am (UTC)4.06 - What I remember most about this ep is just how scary Colton started to be, while at the same time being kinda pathetic. And all his interactions with Tim are just excellent.
Speaking of, any time there are multiple scenes with Tim I am a happy viewer! We even got Tim on his own B plot so that was a treat. It also served, again, to show that it would have been super easy for Tim to have ended up like Colton.
Raylan and Shelby click together surprisingly well.
And, honestly, Boyd planning for a respectable future with Ava is both sweet and doomed. It's like when there's a tough situation, you know the rookie cop ain't gonna make it. Same thing here.
4.07 - Art knowing how women fall for Raylan and giving him shit about it is a delight.
Raylan and Arlo talking about cutting a deal is just so very fucked up and tragic and the two actors play off each other so well: you can really sense all the crap floating around under the surface of everything they say to each other. While they aren't my favorite scenes, I'm always impressed by them together. Olyphant is especially good at bringing that simmer of rage right up to the surface but not letting it out.
The thing I remember most about this episode was just how slimy and gross the swingers party was. How claustrophobic and joyless it felt. And just how patronizing and arrogant the town leaders were. This is where it starts to go wrong for Boyd, but I can't say I blame him for wanting to get back at them.

Date: 2020-02-28 05:39 am (UTC)~Is Boyd fooling anyone in that mask? lol.
~Ew. I forgot about the sawed off foot. All that business is real gruesome. That actor who plays the blowtorch dude was one of the French speaking mercenary bad guys on the launch ship in CATWS. Glad they caught Boyd's shady lawyer.
~Johnny Crowder is the worst at betrayal. He should go back to betrayal school 101.
~Shelby should win a goddamn academy award.
~TIM. Um, I know there's a sad and tragic veteran subplot here, but I was VERY distracted by how cute Tim looked in that scene when Colton showed up at the VA and he says, "Hey Boyd Crowder's right." :D :D Then he gets super hot when he draws on that drug dealer and talks the situation down from explosive to just simmering. <3
Honestly I could have done without the cross-section view of Josiah's stump.
Re: Foot Chase
Date: 2020-02-28 06:13 pm (UTC)that's hilarious that you connected the bad guy to Winter Soldier.
Money Trap
Date: 2020-02-28 06:43 am (UTC)~Yay we get some good Raylan and Art dialogue -- "That is rare vintage FBI bullshit. That's a whole different bouquet" hahah
Raylan: You're doing that thing that makes me believe you don't have high hopes." Art: "That eyebrow thing?" lol.
~Tim: "Go get 'em, Tiger!" and then "Jesus Christ Nelson I forgot your birthday." Hey, I take my Tim when I can get him.
~I'm glad
TimRaylan recognizes he has terrible judgment when it comes to women.(eta: having the actor's name the same as another character is confusing for my poor brain apparently haha)~Jody has a very high opinion of himself. That whole video thing is weird and then weird again. The shootout at the bar is an interesting parallel with older westerns. In modern times, the marshal lawman can pull an alarm to clear the bar of people.
~Boyd faces his own shadowy Harlan cabal. That it's at a swinger party is just that extra bit of class.
Re: Money Trap
Date: 2020-02-28 06:44 pm (UTC)The fact that all Harlan's elite go to swinger parties seems...very writerly, like some kind of thing a (dude) writer would think would happen. Weird story choice. But painful--Boyd's always thought he was smarter than everyone else, and they're already a couple steps ahead of him.
Re: Money Trap
Date: 2020-02-28 07:21 pm (UTC)It does rather read like someone was trying to make the crime syndicate in Harlan equal to Eyes Wide Shut or something.
