Dec. 12th, 2020 12:12 pmI'm considering doing the 31 Flavors reccing meme I've done a few times before, most recently two years ago. (A rec a day for 31 days, each one a different fandom.) I think a few people found stuff they didn't know about last time, but I worry that I'm so damn idiosyncratic in my tastes and so picky about what I will read or watch that I don't know if it'd be useful or not. Yet I do feel like I need some sort of impetus to post more.
I got the first of my shingles vaccinations yesterday and man, people were not kidding that it's a doozy. I have been getting flu shots and regular tetanus booster shots (I'm a klutz and I have a mean cat that bites) for years, and never really get sore, maybe at most a little stiffness in my shoulder muscle. But my left arm hurts from my clavicle down past my elbow. And to think, there's another one in a few months! I know it just means that it's working--all the immune system stuff going into overdrive. I just thought that it wouldn't affect me much, since I've heard people complain about pain after flu shots before and it never happened to me, so I thought maybe this one would be relatively clear sailing as well. Still, I'm glad to have it at last--I'd avoided it because of the cost, but my lousy insurance is finally paying for vaccines 100 percent, and this one is 90 percent effective, they say.
A few years ago, I thought I'd actually had shingles because of the intense pain and red skin I had on my back, and my doctor said, yeah, better come in, but we were both surprised that it wasn't. We never did find out what caused it, but I thought if that was how bad shingles could feel, there was no way I wanted to get them. Here's hoping that I don't turn out to be in the 10 percent it doesn't work for.
I was looking at the information about when I might be in line for a COVID-19 vaccination, and I'm very far back. It sounds like about nearly another year of this. I guess getting other vaccinations now, I'm just prepping for the big one. :-D (Praying that our fucked up government doesn't actually succeed at their obstructionist bullshit and Biden and Harris get in to the office and start treating this like the disaster it is.)
Yuletide is bears. This year, it's definitely bears.

Date: 2020-12-13 01:30 am (UTC)Sorry to hear about that shingles vaccine reaction, yowtch. I was lucky not to have much pain after those...the tetanuses usually get me the most, like someone punched me in the arm.
I'd love to see your recs!

Aww, good luck with the bearish Yuletide.

Date: 2020-12-14 01:14 pm (UTC)Ugh I hadn't even thought about the idea that I might not be in line for a vaccine for a while even once they start giving them. But at least I'm at my aunt and uncle's house finally! I talked for like two solid hours last night because I was so overcome with the novelty of having another person ON A COUCH WITH ME...
