I hate change. I really hate it, I am a person who likes my ruts and staying in them, where I'm comfy and cozy. But after more than 15 years, I need to change ISPs and get away from the once-local ISP I have who got bought out by someone and now is filled with douchebags. I really don't like webmail much, I use it more because I have to, but I prefer to get all my mail downloaded into a mail box, but for the foreseeable future it's probably best to reach me at my gmail address, gwynethr @ gmail dot com. I will prolly set up an email address from my vids page, which once I figure out where I'll be for my interwebs service, I can configure (I hope, being incompetent is always a hindrance) to come to my Mac Mail.

I've already taken down my fic site, which grieved me, but everything is up at AO3 now, so when I finally get a break in my work schedule, I hope I can put everything up in my own site again. I have the space for my vids, so it seems like I might as well use it for the fic and stuff. I can't tell you how dickish the "support" people have been at my ISP. The guy I talked to last week was just unreal -- imagine Comic Book Guy working in support. I wanted to reach through the phone and punch him in the throat.

So people have been sending me mail at my gmail address for a time, but I never see it. I thought I had forwarded mail to my home, but apparently not. (Sorry about that! It's not that I'm rude!) And I've poked around for the past hour, but I cannot find anyplace in the settings that allows me to forward to my home address. Does anyone know if this is possible? I'd really rather not have to check it all the time online; it's hard for me to read, and I'm just more comfortable with mailboxes.

I have two gmail addresses (fan and mundane) and despise webmail; I use Thunderbird, a desktop email client, and you can also use Apple's Mail.app for gmail easily enough.

If you'd rather forward from gmail to another address, open your gmail web page, and click the gear icon (actually it looks like a Star of David to me), which is probably at the top right, to open a dropdown menu; on that menu, choose Settings.

You should now see a horizontal list of options across the top of the screen, under the word "Settings." Click "Forwarding and POP/IMAP." "Forwarding" should now be the first option under that line. Here is Google's own explanation of the whole process: https://support.google.com/mail/answer/10957?hl=en&ctx=mail&authuser=1 Good luck!

You mean you actually managed to TALK to them? I keep calling but 1) can't get through to a human 2) leave a message for callback that NO ONE EVER CALLS ME BACK and 3) their automated system hangs up on me. How'd you get through to them?

It's possible to set gmail up so it automatically works with your mail client of choice, be it Mac Mail, Thunderbird, Outlook, or whatever. What do you use for your mailbox? I can step you through it.

I am so sorry to hear that your ISP is being useless. I worked at two different ones, a lifetime ago, and I tried to be the helpful person that you'd dream of reaching. (Granted, I was in ops behind the scenes; I can't vouch for everyone in support.)
