Mad Men has been, in a season when other shows start their decline, kicking ass all season long, and tonight I think they accomplished the impossible -- they have reached a point where they're better than their first season. Between this episode and The Suitcase, I don't see how any other show could be Best Drama at the Emmys or the Golden Globes.

Holy shit. Just holy shit.

No real spoilers, just reactions )

OMG tonight's Mad Men! The most distressing episode ever, y/y? Don, how are you so sexy and lovable and so loathsome at the same time?

Went to see Zombieland with [livejournal.com profile] mlyn today. SO MUCH FUN Y'ALL!! I love zombies, especially spoofy zombie stuff and this one had all the great ingredients -- gore, more gore, and too much gore, Hummers and Cadillac Escalades with cow catchers, lots and lots of guns, and carnival rides. Plus Abigail Breslin, who somehow is getting cuter as she gets older, I don't know how. I couldn't stop laughing at the Russell Crowe joke and I think I injured myself.

It comes it at a lean runtime of 80 minutes so it doesn't overstay its welcome, important in a zombie movie. I liked that the zombies move faster than the traditional Night of the Living Dead versions, but a little slower than 28 Days Later ones -- nice variations on their thematic inspirations. Normally I despise Woody Harrelson, but I think this was a role he was designed to play, you know what I mean?

But I think the best thing is the credits and title cards and such -- its interactivity with the action in the movie was delightful. All in all, a good time, well-done, and more laughs than I've had in a really long time at a comedy. This would make a perfect complement to Shaun of the Dead for a sterling double feature.

Thanks so much to [livejournal.com profile] wisteria_ for pointing out this wonderful Mad Men yourself page. I totally love myself hangin' with Joan and Peggy at Sterling Cooper -- just dropped by in my pedal pushers and with a martini to say hi and show them my latest picture in the society pages of the paper.
This is me! )
I think I totally will make this my wall paper because then I get to see Joan on the left (where I have more blank real estate) all the time. Not that it wouldn't be fun to drink with Don in a bar, but I have to admit -- I'd take the ladies any day because they are so freaking awesome. Oh I can't wait till the new season starts on the 16th.

I don't suppose anyone out there has an avi of the Mad Men season 2 finale, ep #13? [livejournal.com profile] anoel kindly pointed me toward a rar file, but I not only do not know what a rar file is, I have no idea what to do with it, and I don't really feel like pushing my bad luck any further, since I'm already working with avi files that I have no idea if they will come out okay.

I am really not good at this aspect ratio thing, or this file type thing, or this vidding all electronically thing. Basically, I am not good at anything vid-related.

I reeeeeeally need a clip from the 13th ep. But I have only 1-12.

I just finished watching the first season of Mad Men. [livejournal.com profile] mlyn and I tried to get through the last four eps last night, but tiredness won out. Sorry Jo and Christy -- I couldn't wait weeks more to see the end. I was too tense.

At first I didn't want to watch the series. Everything I heard about it sounded so much like In the Company of Men, the deeply upsetting movie by Neil LaBute from quite a few years ago and one of the main reasons I can never elevate Aaron Eckhart to BSO status, because I can never stop thinking of him from that squirm inducing cruelty fest. Also, having grown up, my little feminist self, in the time immediately after Mad Men is set in, I wasn't interested in reliving the sexism and general boorishness of the time. But M'lyn's enthusiasm and explanations relieved my fears and I was hooked by the first episodes completely.

Spoilers for Mad Men, not that anyone's watching! )
