I'm sorry I'm so late with this letter. But here's the thing about me: it's all good. No, really. I've only been doing Festivids for a couple years, and in both those years I got wonderful vids that made me really happy, because someone made them for me me me, and it was fabulous. The fact that we share some fandoms and love vids is the very bestest thing ever, right there.

I am mostly pretty easy, as well, in terms of music. There's very little I don't like -- there are specific artists I don't like, but the only music genre I don't enjoy is modern jazz. Other than that you're good to go. Country your thing? That's cool! Hair metal your bag? I can be convinced! (I can also be very O.o about show tunes used in vids, but sometimes those work, too.) Whatever you think works well for the subject, that's what you should make.

I don't have a ton of stuff to add to my details for my requests, but here's what I can tell you:

Big Trouble in Little China, Case Histories, Charlie Jade, Eyes of Laura Mars, Happy Endings, MDs, The Unit )

I am sorry I'm so late with this letter, because I deeply appreciate that you are making me a vid! Last year was my first Festivids, and it was a wonderful experience -- so rest assured, I will be thrilled with whatever you make me.

I don't have a lot to add to the optional details in the original signup, but here's a little bit about me and my likes/dislikes and the fandoms in case it helps.

You guys, I got the most unexpected present for Yuletide -- an MDs story! My little fandom of one actually piqued the interest of my author, and she wrote me a slashy story of hijinx & shenanigans with a little porn thrown in for good measure. And I mean, what's better on Christmas morning than a little porn? Nothing, that's what. Also there is bonus gay biker gang!!! I am so happy. You can read it here (even the description is cute!)

Summary:

Dr. Kellerman wants dinner after a crappy day, but gets strippers and Dr. Dalgety instead. Not that he's complaining.

---

Thank you to everyone for the condolences about my dad. It's been a hard week, most notably because I'm incredibly stressed about making my deadline on this huge guidebook I'm working on, and it's amazing how much time the details of Stuff You Have to Do When Someone Dies take. THere is a lot more still to come, and I'm kind of freaking about making all my commitments. And I'm not going to be able to DL ALL the YULETIDE like I'd planned onto my Nook Color and read to my heart's content away from the computer. I was all excite about that this year but I guess my plans will have to wait a while.

It really helps having Miss Tilda here. She's so sweet and funny. Pugs are good therapy. Tonight I'm just going to make this fabulous goat cheese and chard pie that I love, and stay here and put some movies on in the background and continue to work on my book, and my Festivid.

Wow! We matched on something! Considering how weird my fandoms often are, I am excite!!11!!! I don't have a lot to add to the optional details in the signup form, but I'll let you know a little about me as a reader, and why I chose those fandoms.

About me )

For my fandoms, I don't have a lot beyond the optional details I provided, but here's a few things about how I see these:
The Hire series, MDs, Case Histories, and Drive Angry )

Most of all, I hope you have fun, and love one or more of these fandoms as much as I do and look forward to sharing our squee.

So, I nominated three fandoms for Yuletide. I realize I can still decide not to participate... but signups are soon, and... I don't know. It's probably suicide given how busy I am and I already signed up for Festivids. And if I sign up with two of these fandoms, I can almost guarantee not getting a match, because they are so obscure, so I added one that I think might actually get at least one match. I just am not feeling much love for things that aren't fandoms of like one or two right now; I have to think of something that's on the list of fandoms that I actually want to receive, let alone write in. But anyhoo, I nominated The Hire film series (the BMW short films starring Clive Owen as the Driver, MDs (which exists of me and one other person who isn't doing Yuletide, so...), and Case Histories (TV), which might be the only thing I'd get a match on.

I haven't even started my Festivid yet... arg. I thought I might be able to finish my Justified vid beforehand, but time has just vanished between too much work and taking care of Tilda and dealing with my dad's crap.

I've also spent way too much time on reading all this OTW stuff, and it's beyond depressing to see people I care about ripped to pieces by people with axes to grind and agendas to shove down others' throats. Sometimes having axes to grind can be motivational, but unfortunately it rarely leads to consensus or positive interactions with other people. And I'm speaking from experience here, because that's often how I looked at things when I began in media fandom online -- I went in with guns out, ready for battle, with people who weren't looking for a battle of any kind. I learned over time that you can't approach working with groups of people who are here for the love of an idea that way. Others have said things about this better than I could, so instead I give you the Bobcats, who deal these howler monkey types in a way I wish I could in real life.

Hello, my Festividding friend! This is my first year participating, though I am a looooong-time vidder. So I am very excited about this! As you can probably tell from my grotesque overuse of exclamation points!

I honestly don't have a lot to add to my information on the fandoms that I haven't already included in the details. I hope that the information about music ideas or the kinds of things I like in that fandom will be helpful, but most importantly, I hope you will have fun and put your squee for the fandom in the vid. That's what will make both of us happy! I am excite!

Some stuff about me and vids and my fandoms in case you want it )

I nominated a bunch of things for Festivids; this pretty much means I'm participating, which could be really bad because things are not going well with my dad at all and I'm drowning in work, plus there's Yuletide, but I'm going to give it the old college try anyway.

I nommed:

Miami Vice
The Middleman
Catch and Release
Charlie Jade
Justified
La Femme Nikita (USA series)
Life
MDs
Prison Break
The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the Eighth Dimension
The Jacket

I was genuinely surprised that Prison Break had not been on the list before. And some of those... well, I'm fairly certain I will be the only one offering or asking, just as I often am in Yuletide. Especially MDs -- my slashtastic show that only seems to encompass about three people in the whole world, and only one other person who seems to know the show as well as I do (looks wistfully at [personal profile] trelkez, the only person I think who has ever made a vid for it). I did post the only episodes that seem to be out there in this post and you can DL them and get caught up in the William Fichtner/John Hannah slashy goodness (PLUS bonus Jane Lynch pre-Glee). What are you waiting for? Go. Download. I'll wait.

I would love to make or receive a really creepy sicko vid of The Jacket, too. I have an idea but haven't been able to motivate myself yet to vid it because it's so wonderfully disturbing, so this might be good for me. And oh man, if I could make or get a Prison Break vid for Lang and Mahone, I would possibly perish of happiness. I love thinking of all these things. I have been watching the movie Catch and Release a bit lately -- Tim Olyphant has never looked more beautiful. Anyway. Lots to think about.

I have this big "Fuck you you fucking fucks" TV post boiling inside me but I have to go take care of a bunch of stuff. Related to some of my shows, or shows that will never be my shows because of the fucking fuckballs who run them. Maybe later. Every time I think about these things, I get so worked up. I need to go look at shoes and post shoe pics at my Tumblr.

OK, first things first: I was wrong, but most importantly, YOU were right. It's true that pinch-hits don't mean Christmas blues. I got not one, but FOUR freaking stories, and apparently there are more Madness stories still to come. I'M NOT WORTHY. And it sounds like possibly the person who defaulted still put the story up, and it sounds like something terrible happened (so of course now don't I feel like a shitheel). And they are all great.

My pressies, let me show you them!!!

So, I get these two wonderful Christmas cakes of Buckaroo Banzai.
Saddle Up is a wonderful post-movie depiction of Buckaroo's intentions of bringing Rawhide back to life. And just about anyone at the Institute in the movie makes an appearance, and there's this wonderful little pun of Johns who come to help.
and then
The Adventures of Rawhide: Navigating An End and a Beginning (With Bloody Feet) is a look at the post-Peggy Buckaroo, with glimpses back to how Rawhide met him and some adorable case-file names and nemeses. It's beautifully written and I'm thrilled.

And more cake! MORE CAKE, PEOPLE! White Collar cake, to be precise.
The Great God-Daughter Caper has Neal and Peter chasing around looking for Peter's missing 16-year-old god-daughter and being Neal and Peter together. Aaaaaaahhhh.

So there's the cake and then I get this SURPRISE FROSTING. My little fandom that there are hardly any others who have even seen it, the fandom where I was the only one who mentioned it this year (last year I bullied someone else into offering it, but this year it was just my lone request, no offers), MDs, and someone wrote me a Bruce/Robert story with smut! I AM SO HAPPY. Happy happy frosting. It's called What's Worth Keeping and you know what? THIS STORY is worth keeping!

And then there was a cherry! A little Chuck ficlet called Reverse Surveillance where Chuck might just turn the tables on Casey watching him all the time. EEEEEEEE. Chuck and Casey.

I am going to be sitting on that horrible plane and in the horrible airports just thinking about these stories and being happy, so watch out air travel, you can't get me down now! I dare you! I HAZ BUCKAROO, WHITE COLLAR, MDs, AND CHUCK STORIEZ!
gwyn: (yuletide newbie liviapenn)
Sorry for the lengthy delay, my dear Yuletide writer. Busy weekend!

In general, I will just be very happy to have a story to wake up to on the high holy day of the Winter Shopping Festival. It will be wonderful to see that someone else cares about my fandoms, too. I hope that you will write what you enjoy, and my details in the Yuletide signup are pretty much my main points of interest or concern. Everything else here is just the gravy -- makes something taste better and has lots of yummy fat, but it's not necessary to the enjoyment of the main items. I can be pretty sure you're not here for my fandom of one, MDs, so I won't spend too much time on that one.
